Default Some info please!

I am getting a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9liter gas engine truck tomorrow. I wanted to know what was some of the first things i should check and replace. It has 36x15.50 with stock gears should i get high gears to help with less stress on the drivetrain. 6 inch lift is on the truck. I hope to get some pics tomorrow.

for me, the number one thing i do is check and replace all fluids and filters. It seems like overkill, but i do it anyhow. there is no way to tell how long the brake fluid/coolant/gearoil/tranny fluid has been there. it is a bit of work, but now you know when it was done, what it was done with, and you can now start at a benchmark for your maintenance schedule.

If anybody can lead me to a thread that has which transfer case I have along with what diff front and rear would be great. I have been trying to figure it out so I can buy rebuild kits and get some gears for the front and rear.

If its all stock there's a spec sheet in clove box on door. It will have trans # transfer case, gear ratio should be 4\11's and dana's also check and make sure vac lines are in good shape that run front accuator and that ball jounts have been replaced with servicable one's.

Also if you haven't yet pick up a hayns manual. Also codes can be checked withou a code scanner. All you have to do is turn key on, off 3 times, after 3rd tin leave key in on position the codes will be displayed in odomitor screen. But be fast! They don't stay long

I have a code scanner as well. I try to do as much work on my cars myself. I feel closer to them when I work on them. I am just a DIY though.
