Default MDS on my Hemi

I've been watching my MPG on my truck lately and I drive 40 minutes to and from work mostly on cruise control.. I was just interested if anyone knew WHEN exactly the engine drops down cylinders? And if adjusting my cruise control speed affected that?

From what I've been told here, the motor drops cyl. when under 70mph. I'm new to these trucks so I dont know LOL. I too drive 30-90min a day (30 to work, then 60 to get the kids and go home). I've noticed though, when I need to get around someone and I'm running 60 she has plenty of power at demand! LOL.

The MDS will kick in when the engine is not under load regardless of speed.

I think it is supposed to kick in above 15. You will be able to feel it. you will know when you accelerate if you are in 4 cyl. mode. slight acceleration you will feel a slight surge prior to accelerating. I would love to disable mine. I find it annoying on level ground constantly going in and out of MDS mode

Can't you just keep it in tow/haul mode to disable it?

Mine comes on all the time. Even if I have the cruise control set at 80 MPH, as long as I'm not going uphill (more than a slight grade), it will be on.

You can buy a new Diablo or Superchips (I think) and disable the MDS.

The latest flash has modified the speed minimum to 21 MPH.

Default MDS on my Hemi

Interesting enough I had an oportunity to ride with a Dodge mechanic today for about 45 mins. I have an 07 ram 5.7 Hemi. I asked him to explain the MDS system and how it works to me as we were driving at highway speeds. The MDS is very seemless. You cannot feel it! I have never noticed the MDS kick in our out or hesitate. It will activate at a constant speed. I also have never had a problem when power was needed. I would have to say it works fine for me and I have an Edge Tuner on the Truck.

There's been many threads about MDS question and issues. If you do a search for "MDS" you will get a lot of reading material.

MDS works great for me. It's on most of the time as long as you are cruising and not flooring it. On cruise control it should be on as long as you are not going up hill and cruise is adjusting to keep speed.

I have not noticed the MDS as much as others say, and that they feel it surging or kicking in and out. I enjoy driving my truck and how it runs.
