Default LED tailgate light bar

Hi all, I'm thinking of installing an LED light bar that mounts under the tailgate, but I'm wondering if it would get in the way of the opening for the spare tire rod??
Does anyone have one of these installed that could give me some insight?

Thanks!

I mounted mine and honestly I haven't checked to see about the hole for the spare but the tool to lower it is very small. I don't think I would have a problem either way. If you are getting a tailgate light bar I recommend you get this harness to make it plug and play with no cutting. Here is a shot of mine. Good luck!

Here is the ebay link for the connector:

My question is then with this adapter would you have 2 4 pin connectors now? Would they both work at the same time and would it be necessary to upgrade the fuse if you had a trailer plugged in as well as the tailgate light?

Yes you would have two 4 pin connectors. Yes they both work at the same time and no it would not be necessary to upgrade the fuse. LEDs pull VERY little power and require almost nothing to run. As you can see from my pic I have the LED bar and two LED mud flap bars running. I have connected a trailer to the stock input as well and I had no issues.

Hey Arth, so where is your adapter actually plugged in? Also, what light bar do you have and are you happy with it?

Thanks.

The adapter is actually plugged in behind the bumper as seen here..

What my finger is on is one end of the adapter and the other is connected to the bumper.

I went with the Rampage LED light bar and had AutoAnything price match amazon and got it for around $30. I've had it for a few months now without issue. I honestly just went as cheap as possible because I figure if this one breaks I can still get another two before you start touching the cost of the competitors.

By the pic it looks like that goes right over the opening for the spare tire lowering tool. Will it flex out of the way if you need to get to your spare tire.

I've got a '10, and the LED light bar does go over the hole, but when I checked the fit, and inserted the tool I had no issues, as the bar flexes a bit if you need it to.

The only issues I've had with my Plasma Glow (with reverse lights) is that the cheap ass double sided tape loses it's stickiness, causing sagging of the bar. I went ahead and put a few self tapping screws in to hold it, as I know for sure it's a permanent install for me.

a little trick that another member has suggested on the LED light bar install, if you can find the old school jewel cases for CDs (you know the type that they used to have that were almost 1/8"-1/4" thick.... line a few up on the bumper... this will help you keep it level during install...

Good luck

Exco
