Very good point, get your bearings checked at the same time you get your break line repaired.

Probably won't do me any good...they towed it for less then a mile at the time with some dinky Explorer.

Just go get a weight distribution hitch and have them set it up for your boat and you should be good to go. Don't tow in overdrive, use the tow/haul button. I assume you have a brake controller in your truck, if not get one and have it adjusted to the trailer loaded. Any reputable hitch dealer can fix you up and get you on your way. Make sure you have a spare for the trailer also as not all flats are repairable.
Good luck on your trip.

And I am thinking of taking a frequent breaks to make sure temps are in check. I am planning on taking the thing to the shop to grease the bearings and make sure tires are going to hold up. I know that trailer has surge brakes and one of the brake lines is leaking so I'm planning to repair that as well before leaving. Gonna take a full set of tools with me along with some tire repair kits and portable compressor. Should be ok.... right?
Excellent idea in getting all those repairs done first, I'd say they are essential. Frequent breaks are also a good idea. I had mine in tow/haul the whole way and had my temps up on the EVIC as well. For me, my average speed was between 80 and 90 km/hr while towing. The temperatures while towing were as follows, 69C (156F) trans, 99C (210F) oil and 97C (206F) coolant.

The weight distribution hitch is awesome! I towed around 10,000 lbs behind my truck with a weight distribution hitch from upstate New York to lower North Carolina with absolutely no issues. I ran 70 pretty much the whole way, even through the mountains, just fine.

ALL suggestions are appreciated so thank you.

Well, looks like I'm not towing anything at this point. Seller backed out of the deal as soon as he heard I will be coming in person to pick it up
It's true what they say, if it's too good to be true - it probably is.

Thank you all for your input on this, it will definitely come in handy at later date.

Keep on trucking!

You will be fine. With 1500 miles on my truck I towed 1000 miles. Granted, it was a dinky Uhaul trailer (5'x8') BUT I did have a ton of stuff in it and piled the bed and cab full of people/dog/stuff.
You'll probably want airbags as suggested already.
The truck should be fine on the temps. Just watch the gauges. You shouldn't HAVE to make stops just to let it cool down. It's a truck, it was made to be worked.

One thing I will add though, if you haven't done it yet, change your oil first.

AAAaaaand just read your last post. That sucks, but hey, better than driving out there first I guess

In another post, a guy said he kept it in 4th gear for the trip. Engine revved a bit higher, but hunted less and got better mileage. 5th and 6th are overdrive gears.....

Sounds like air bags will help a lot with stance of truck and headlight aim...

Well, what do you know, I did end up going and picking this boat up.
2 days, 8 states, 2300 miles and 170 gallons of gas later I'm home with the boat

I must say Ram performed above my expectations. I had no problem whatsoever pulling such a big rig and even got 11mpg loaded (23mpg empty). Here's couple of pics...

Once again, thank you for all your suggestions
