Thanks guys lol. I hope no one has to do this but if you live in FL you will at some point. This is round 3 for me. I've been screwed two times before by people without insurance. This state is so F'd up.

Looks like if I need a new chrome bumper and a bracket(assuming it's bent) it's roughly ~$600 say for the parts. Plus the paint fix ~$50-$100. I can say for sure I won't get that from the guy. He probably won't give me anything except the offer to take it to his buddy who is far away and I don't know what quality work that'd be.

For me to buy everything needed for the sport bumper setup it'd be about $1,000 ish and I'd have to paint it myself or have it painted and that doesn't include the fog lights.

So looks like I can fix it myself for under $1,000(no point filing a claim there due to my deductible) or upgrade to the sport font end for probably like $1,500 or so. I wish I could file a claim and have them do the sport front end, even if I paid the difference.

Oh how I love our Jacked up state when it comes to insurance. Cae in point, I cleaned out my truck one day and through away the sheet of paper with my insurance info on it. Got pulled over the next day for running a red light (there's more to the story but the red light didn't exist lol) and I didn't have my insurance on me. The officer let me go with just a warning. While I'm thankful for the warning this is something that needs to be enforced, issue the ticket please. The catch 22 to this is that even if you don't present the officer with the insurance, if he issues you a fine for whatever amount, and you show up to pay your ticket and have proof of insurance for the time you were pulled over, the state will throw out the ticket entirely. Therefore to the cop it's a waste of time and paper work and he'd rather be pulling over the DUI's and speeders. Right now throughout the state there is a serious lack of funding for cops to the point where they aren't even hiring or accepting applications, so Police Forces are "advised" to go after the bigger tickets because it looks better for the station and they can apply for more funding.

I'm sad to say Sean is a victim of City Politics in this matter, however you could go to small claims court, no attorneys necessary for anything under $3,000 I believe, just make sure you have all the documents, photos and a thing from the police department saying you talked to such and such officer. Even if they show up and say they have insurance now, the card will have the date that is was active so they can't pull any sh!t, and print out your phone bill to show that you've been talking with Sir Dickhead abut getting this repaired so they can't act like this is something new. In my short 25 years on this planet I was married for 2 years and got divorced in California, me and the legal system have spent quite a bit of time together I've learned how to cover my ass when someone is trying to screw me over

And oh how I believe you! Canada has never looked so good! lol

Steve, I didn't know you were married!

It's not going to be worth my time going to court. I should know today if I'll get anything from this guy. I'm going to "offer" him to give me money to pay for the bumper and bracket parts, which is about $600. That's a good offer IMO, but the problem is he knows he's off the hook so likely won't give me anything.

I'll probably leave it be and down the road buy the sport bumper.

British Columbia probably has the best set up going, you get your licence plates from ICBC (Insurance Company of British Columbia) a provincially run NFP, it is manditory you buy you liability insurances through them, collision, comp. etc are your choice, when you pay your insurance you get your plates, when the cops pull you over and run a check on your plates they know imediately if you have insurance or not, bounce a cheque or don't pay your insurance, you get a letter and your plates are cancelled, again the cops know all of this by simply running a check on your plates. If you get into a minior accident, you call police, they take a report over the phone and give you a reference number, then you book your car into an ICBC inspection station, a huge drive in facility, the one in Victria has 8 or 10 huge bays, they have trained people who look at the vehicle and give you an estimate on the spot of what the damages are, if its hit and run, they have a cop there that takes all the info then starts an investigation if needed, one time, in MHO that government involvement with something actually works for the honest guy

I decided I'm going to call and file a police report(or try to anyway) now. Since it is over $500 they should do it. Hopefully they can do it on the phone as the city it happened in is far away. At least it will be on record then. Not that anything will likely come of it.

Damn man that sucks! But they should allow you to do this as long as you pay the difference

I'm still considering whether or not to file a claim. I guess I need to just price it to see what the difference is.

They won't allow me to file a police report. What a bunch of BS. So that's it. I get stuck with it. They said as soon as I moved my truck after it happened I turned it into a civil case between myself and her.

I don't understand why our society encourages and supports irresponsibility and basically just doing things that are wrong.

While i was driving back from Connecticut a couple of weeks ago

A liquid ruined my paint job, sport bumper, hood, both fenders, both front doors & part of the roof line had to be repainted $2200, insurance told me nothing, except that i had to pay $500 deductible & i would have a claim against my policy
Then i spoke to an insurance broker, not from my insurance company, i was told that because i carry Commercial Vehicle insurance of $1,000,000, to expect a sh*t storm

Then i backed into an olive tree & wasted my tailgate & rear bumper, new parts, prep, paint, etc. $1600 more
I just said screw it to both claims, i called & told them to cancel the claims
insurance adjuster is pissed, OH WELL

My Ram looks like it just rolled out of the showroom & i am again a Happy Camper
