Default power loss

hey guys my name Is Caleb Im From nothern Michigan. about a year ago i puchased a 96 ram1500 5.9l extended cab short box what a 6 inch suspention lift and a 3 inch body lift. about two weeks after i bought it the truck majorly lost power so i di the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires and no change so i did a compression test and that was good so then i herd about the intake and plenum gaskets going bad so i changed those and it needed it but now when i hit the gas it boggs down a little and then takes off but still not like it used too its still a slugg. so i checked for vacume leaks and all good there so and i tested the map sensor and that was good too. so im stumped fuel problem maybe?

Fuel pressure at the rail checkpoint needs to be 35 minimum, preferrably closer to 40, and steady as a rock under all conditions. check and see that something isn't crimping off your fuel lines with all the lifting thats' been done. there is no fuel filter, unless a previous owner put one inline You MUST use a gauge stick it under a wiper and go for a ride. also, you may want to consider a code scanner. have you a CEL illuminated? Also, you may want to reboot the ECU. To do that, turn your key to IGN, without the eng operating, and pull the NEG cable. turn key off, and reconnect the battery cable. and see what happens. report back and we may continue...

my fuel pressure was a steady 38 and my CEL is on. i took it and got it read for codes and its trowing a coolant temp sensor code so does that mean the computer is reading that my truck is cold and the choke is always on? would it make the truck that much of a slug?

If you didn't reset the computer, do so. You must also allow for time after reset to let the computer re-learn things.
On another point, how's your exhaust? Cat Conv. could be clogging up.

http://www.gearvendors.com/images/d5gas.gif As you can see, the gasser ain't a real torquey engine right out of the box, miles and maintenance take their tolls, but since this happened all at once, I would focus my attention at the timing set, at this point. It's possible to jump a tooth, or be just plain worn out. If you have access to a timing light, run your engine and watch the balancer wheel with the light, it would help to draw your abc s on the wheel and see how steady the flash is on the particular point on the wheel you marked wiggly is bad, steady is good. The reason for abc s is you can use any wire for your induction lead, wherever it picks up the juice, you can see on the wheel. Purists will tell me I' m nutty, but thats OK, I'm old enough to take the abuse! (Plus, my eyeballs need sharpening and I probably couldn't see the #1 mark anyhow!)

There weren't really any changes to the systems on those trucks. They were pretty much coasting after the change to OBD II. All R&D was being focused on the then yet-to-be-released Hemi.
