because of my mods, none of my piping is less than 3"...I've seen others locally do the identical setup but use smaller piping..

There are several ways to go about a good exhaust setup. I'd do a Y pipe with single exhaust, or split tail pipes if you want the dual look. There's really not much gain with "true duals". It'll save you a ton of money too(especially with SS....get ready to be shocked with $$ when you go in). Or you could do something like fred did.

If doing duals all the way, definitely have either an x or h pipe crossover. Also if you don't plan on heads or cam then probably stay at 2.25" pipes. 2.5" wouldn't be too bad though. 3" duals would probably be too big and cause power lose that's noticeable.

If single, do either 2.25" or 2.5" duals to a single 3".

My state does yearly inspections that include a probe up the tail pipe. What will rotating it 180 do?

He took a single in dual out muffler and reversed it so it was a dual in single out muffler. Straight through mufflers are reversible. So basically his y pipe is in the muffler, and he has an h pipe before the muffler.

The headers come with a 3" Y pipe So I guess it will keep it and do a SIDO muffler. Now the question is which muffler? Magnaflow 14", Magnaflow glass pack or cherry bomb. Though I haven't looked to see if cherry bomb makes a stainless steel muffler yet so that will be a deciding factor.

This sounds do-able. I will just have to loose the 3" Y that comes with the headers which I was going to do anyway.

If you really want it LOUD why not run straight pipes with no muffler? So you'll have your headers with a y pipe to a single 3" pipe, then take another y pipe and reverse it so it's single in dual out for dual tailpipes.

Not sure I want it THAT loud. I live in an apartment complex and some times leave for work at 0630hrs and normally get home at 2300hrs.

Seems I have more research and thinking to do. Good thing I have another month or so to figure it out.

Ok. Keep in mind if you do duals with two 14" mufflers that will basically be "twice" as quiet as a single with one 14" muffler.

Maybe not twice as quiet but you get the point I think. You have twice the muffler volume.

I get what you are saying. At this point it will most likely be a Y and SIDO or a SIDO reversed. Although I would prefer dual tail pipes. Or what about a DIDO? I just looked at the Magnaflow site and they have those.
