Default Questions about Tire Types, Pressures, and TPMS

Hi all,

I have a 2012 RAM 1500 Outdoorsman that came with LT265/70/17 tires. The door sticker states 43psi inflation pressure.

On my other vehicles I have swapped over to winter tires for many years, however looking at options for this truck has led to the conclusion that LT tires are generally considerably more expensive than P-rated tires. Considering that one of the reasons I stayed with 17" wheels was the cost of 20" tires, it's unfortunate to see that I may have been better off in this regard to have 20" P-rated rather than 17" LT-rated.

So my questions to the forum gurus are:
1) what are the disadvantages of using P-rated winter tires vs. LT-rated? I will not be pulling trailer or using heavy loads over winter.

2) Is the TPMS warning setting calibrated to the type of tire installed? If I go with P-rated winter tires at 35psi, will I get Low Tire Pressure warnings all the time?

Thanks in advance

i have been doing tires for costco for 15 years. the TPMS will only go off when one or more of the tires goes 25% below what is on the door.so if stock is 35psi and the tire gets down to 29pis the light will come on... if you have any more ???? let me know

You sure your door sticker recommends 43 PSI?
