I, too, got a new Ram and with about 800 miles I'm getting about 17 mpg (manual calc.) Driving 90% highway @ speeds between 65-70 mph, open cargo box and no haulings.

The ECO feature is ON between 10-15% of the time and I'm light to moderate on the gas pedal.

At how many miles you have and at those speeds, that seems accurate. I was not impressed with my mileage when I first got my Ram. At around 4000 miles you will probably see an improvement. The VVT will start working around that time. Plus, you're not going to be in eco mode much at 75 mph.

Would someone be able to explain about the VVT starting to work. I not sure I understand it correctly. Does it start working after a number of miles on a new vehicle ? I just got a new truck as well and I am still learning about it ?

I don't mean to hijack thread, is there maybe a thread already explaining this ?

I'll stick my 2 cents in.
Around town I'm getting 16 - 17. (keeping my foot out of the HEMI!) Freeway, 70 - 75 mph around 20mpg. no load in the bed.
BUT - on my last 1200 mile round trip to Nor Cal and the bed loaded with camping gear I managed - now get this - with cruise control (set at 75) 16 MPG. Without Cruise control and self managing 75 mph I could keep the ECO light on get 17+. mpg. Seems like setting the cruise shuts down the VV.T

If I set my cruise on seventy, I get about 18 mpg on the hiway, if I drop down to sixtyfive, I get over 20. Mine is a 4wd, so I'm happy.

Everyones numbers sound really close to each other which is about in line with what is listed on a window sticker. 4x2's= 15-20mpg/ 4x4's=14-19mpg. If you get better than those listed, you must be manipulating that pedal just right. But watch out for the full time heavy footed owners, they will tell you that your high economy mileage is full of hot air or as one Ram owner put it, "Miracle Miles".

I have 2000 miles on my 1500 Hemi. I get around 15- 16 mpg overall. This includes some highway, and mostly local driving. I'm thrilled. The day I picked up my new truck, and traded my 2003, 2500 QC, 8' bed truck, I checked the computer and it read 8.8. I was impressed when that truck gave me 2 digit mileage that didn't have a decimal point in it. I am saving about $100 per month on gas.

I put a Yakima roof rack on to carry my Kayak, and the mileage went down to about 13.5.

Does anyone know which model the EPA bases their estimates on? Quad cabs and regular cabs shouldn't be getting the same city mileage.
