TerrysRam, I agree with your take on the rear gear as well. I have the LSD 3.55's and lovem for my needs of a truck. I don't do anymore quarter ton truck heavy towing(6-8K lb boats/trailers), or be first off the stoplight type launches, which is why I preferred my gearing this time around. I only tow my boat, weighing around 3K loaded down and with 3.55's, it's more than enough. I commute daily with my Ram 7 days a week so mpg became more of my priority. I know, I know, for some of you who constantly say, "It's a truck, not an economy car", BUT, for a lot of us Dad's with three children and a misses, who like to play outdoors, pickup landscaping/building materials, and maintain a family 365 days a year, it's nice to have the best of both worlds when it comes to filling a 32gallon fuel tank of 89-93 octane. Don't worry, my wife and I still maintain our paid off 2006 Scion Xb grocery getter that still gets 33-35mpg city/hwy mix.

As an experiment today, I tried an entire trip using Tow/Haul mode. Previous average MPG for this exact trip was about 15.5 for the trip using MDS. Today's was 19.1! I will be trying that again soon, but it is looking like MDS may be a feel-good gimmick to me. At least for the way I drive. Your mileage may vary.

Just went through my first tank on my 2012 Express, got just a hair over 13.7mpg. MDS(ECO) on most of the time driving in the city. we'll see how I do on the second.

I clear the EVIC MPG calculation everytime I fill up. When I go back for my next tank I hand calculate my mpg and check it with EVIC's calculation. It is always almost dead on +/- .1 of 15.5 MPG. MY city and highway driving is about even and my route to work has slight up and down hills the whole way.I have gotten as low as 11 on a tank. (My first tank, with my first HEMI lol) and as high as 17 (babied it the second tank because it was really wet outside for a while and I didn't want to get it dirty haha)

I babied mine on the first tank, only to get back 13.7. I'm driving "normally" now and we'll see what she hits on the second. My V6-2000 Silverado was only getting 15, and I hope to at least meet that number, if not exceed it. I'll get it figured out. Driving habits are just as hard to break as any other habit.. I got a Dodge for it's looks, and a Hemi for it's power and reliability. Neither for it's efficiency!

I sure don't think it's a gimmick. I just broke the 3000 mile mark and my last highway trip got 20.7mpg(hand calculated) at 65mph. It should get a little better by 5000 miles. I think that's pretty good for a truck that weighs 4,600lbs.

You guys gotta to remember the op is from Canada like me.Our gallon is bigger so 14mpg Canadian is like maybe 10 mpg us.I know the dodge dart does 58 mpg Canadian and its like 40 mpg us.So just guessing but it quite a bit different.I got 15 mpg on my first 1/2 tank. But was on it to break it in.only had 250 miles on the motor.I"m hoping it will get better when it breaks in.I like my truck but drive over 1000 miles a month to work and back.I bought it for towing a trailer.

Just did a short trip tonight (115 miles) @ 55 mph towing my camper (~ 6000 lbs), and hand calc'd was 9.8, EVIC showed 10.0.

Return trip empty @ 60 mph hand calc'd came to 17.6, EVIC said 18.4.

I ain't getting the mpg everyone else is..what is up ? drove like grandma too !

Same trip last year in the Silverado I had (5.3 w/3.73 gears) got the same towing, but 19.4 empty. And the mpg calculator on it was ALWAYS within .1 of hand calc'd. So far, the Dodge is off by 5-10%. Only time it was less than 5% off was tonight when towing kinda heavy, and then it was off by 2%.
