Exclamation newbie not mechanic starter issue

A few months ago my starter went out on my 2001 1500 5.9 and I was able to get it around until I was able to buy a starter, by tapping on the bad starter. Replaced the starter and everything was fine until this morning. The truck is acting as though the starter is bad again. I read out the battery with a multimeter and it is fine. I tried moving the shifter from park, to neutral and other gears and back to park(auto tranny) with no effect. I tried to read voltage from positive terminal on the starter to the negative terminal on the battery while my wife held the ignition switch in the start position and no voltage was present. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but I can't afford to take it in. Any advice to help me isolate the fault is greatly appreciated. Or a link to a schematic of the system. I'm pretty good at reading out electrical components as I work on the electronics on fighter jets for a living. Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Use a Load Tester on your battery

I just had a vehicle that would not start
i gave up on it, took it to a shop, they removed the starter & bench tested it, it worked as it should

I had recently replaced the battery, so i didn't believe the battery could be an issue
so i had been keeping the charge up on a charger, while in the process of finding the cause of it not starting
It turned out that although the battery had a 12 volt charge,
the AMPs were way below what is required to start the vehicle

I have a 99 Ram 1500 Sport with a 5.2l.....I jumped into my truck one day hit key and wouldn't start so first thing poped the hood pulled the cover off the Power Distribution Box found the starter relay pulled it out made a jumper wire and found the power terminal and the stater terminal took the jumper wire touched the two terminals and the starter turned right over I checked the relay it was good.....My ignition switch went out so I ran wires from the PDB into the cab bought a push button horn switch and works fine for me.....someday I'll get around and change out the ignition switch....

Update - I have now taken the starter in to be tested and it was fine. I checked all blade fuses and they were fine. I replaced the starter relay and still nothing. I replaced the ignition switch and still nothing. I also read on a forum that the security system could be causing it and to try locking and unlocking the doors remotely but I have never owned the key fob for my truck. But the security light is not on and I have disconnected the battery many times in this process and I assume that would have reset the security system anyway. I don't know what else to try. I just don't know what else to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the input everyone.
