Default Question for those with aftermarket radio and reverse camera

Hello all, hoping you can help me with my question.

I have a Kenwood DDX719 radio using the PAC C2R-CHY4, and using
the BARCAM 221 as my reverse camera. The reverse camera comes on
exactly as it is supposed to when i engage the truck into reverse. The problem is when the truck is not running.

My question is: when i put the vehicle in park and turn the ignition to the "OFF" position, the vehicle power delay works like it is supposed to but the camera comes back on. When i turn the key back to the "ON" position the camera goes away, but again if I turn the ignition "OFF" position the camera will come back on. When the truck is running, everything works exactly as it should. The problem is only when the truck isn't running and i pull in somewhere to sit and talk for example.

Has anyone experienced this and if so, what did you do to solve it?

Thanks

It sounds like your camera is getting power from a constant 12 volt source, where it should be powered by an accessory, or switched power source. My camera is powered by the reverse tail light wiring so it will only be drawing power when the reverse lights are illuminated.

I have the ground for the camera hooked with the ground wire for the kenwood radio, and the power wire is attached to the "Reverse" wire on the PAC C2R-CHY4, when the engine is running, everything works exactly as it should.

Hmm that's kind of like my problem. Mine just doesn't turn off... Ever and I have to manually do it. I was told to just wire it the cig lighter, you could try that with your back up camera possibly because your cig lighter gets no power when trucks off

I wired my camera to the trailer harness. Ground to ground, and positive to the reverse light wire. Saved me from having to rout wires from the back all the way to the front, everything is right there at the back of the truck. Only had to run the AV cable to the radio

I too have a Kenwood Radio, I used the Audiovox backup cam I ran the power right to the battery and the ground to the radio ground. It wont turn on when I put it in reverse, but there is a button on my radio that turns the camera on and off. I would likt it to come on automatically when I put the truck in reverse, but I didnt want to cut into the reverse wire. If I did that, what would "tell" the radio to switch to camera mode..??

I think i need to try and hook up the power from the camera to the reverse wire from the radio maybe?? I have one from the Kenwood harness, and one from the PAC harness, which one do I try, or do I hook all three together??

"If I did that, what would "tell" the radio to switch to camera mode..?? "
The radio should have a wire when energized would 'tell the radio' to switch to camera mode. Read over the installation manual and there ought to be a section on how this portion functions. Usually the reverse tail light would send this signal to the radio when it illuminates as trans is shifted into reverse.

I actually just did some research and I think I answered it. I need to hook the Kenwood wire to the PAC wire, and ther eis apparently a setting in the radio i need to change, that I was unaware of. Have to give it a try when I re Install everything.

I just dont want to cut into the reverse light. the PAC adaptor , becasue it hooks right into the data bus for the truck, should trigger the radio, I called Crutchfield and they gave me some tests to try. All stuff that was obvious, but I never thouhg ot it, oh well.

1cleanram,
It looks like that PAC adaptor has had a few revisions. you need revision 1.1.6a, to fix what I believe is the problem you are having with yours. Im actually trying to get mine replaced so I dont have the same issue. I just called crutchfield, where I got the unit, and they will replace it with the newer one if your unit is still under warrantee, which is one year. Mine is over a year old, so I am going to try and go right to PAC and see if they will update mine.
Good luck
