Default Dealer ship screwed up!!!

Hey guys, just want to rant about my dealership experience. I took my 2011 Ram in for a noisy diff and they advised me that the tie rod ends were under recall. They went ahead and changed them and all seemed fine. I took the truck home and it tracked straight. About 5 thousand km later I noticed my brand new tires had worn on the inside edges and I decide to take the truck to an independent alignment shop to see what the problem was. The guy put the truck on the machine and to my amazement both wheels were toed out almost equally. I automatically knew the guys at my dealership did not set the toe (probably just counted threads to put the new rods in). I took the truck back to show them the tires and give them the results of my alignment and they told me they would get back to me. After some calls back and fourth they are now telling me they will not do anything about my worn tires.

What do you guys think I shouid do? Chrysler Canada is telling me its a dealer issue. The dealer is teling me that Chrysler is not paying for an alignment just set toe. Setting toe is an alignment!!!!

Any time you get any component of the steering system replaced, TREs, etc you should have an alignment done. I think it should be included in the recall, but its not, responsibility falls on the end user unfortunately. My guess is the dealer didn't tell you that, because you 'should' know.

Depending on your tire situation, you may be able to get an alignment, then rotate your front tires to the rear to even out the wear, and put the rears on the front of the newly aligned truck. You'll probably get things back to normal.

I cannot believe that Chrysler would replace an item under recall, especially a critical steering component, and not add the front end alignment in free since it was not due to owner error. This is a defective component, involving possible crash issues. I would call chrysler and put it to them in that way, maybe it will help your case, maybe not. Good luck!

When they replaced the tie rod ends on the 2010 I had they did a front end alignment. I would file a complaint.

Makes no sense to me why they would have replaced a component like tie rod ends that were recalled and not do an alignment. Seriously they should know better and know that aligning the vehicle after a repair like that is PART of doing the job and I would definitely file a complaint.

"Setting toe" IS part of an alignment! If they disturbed ANY part of the front end, I think they need to do an alignment. Period!

exactly. An alignment goes hand in hand with replacing any front end steering components. If Chrysler payd the dealer for the labor to re+re the tie rod ends, they should also pay them for an alignment. Unless Chrysler does and the service department thought they could get away with counting the threads and pumping out your truck in an hour less than expected. Remember the service techs in a dealership are getting paid book time per job. If they can hammer out 12 hours of book time in an 8 hour day, the techs get paid really well. Thats where you run into techs who take shortcuts or techs who really know their sh1t and can do a job very efficiently.

The dealership is a joke. They should of at least offered me a couple oil changes. Instead they are making me out to be the bad guy. I own 2 BMW's. They spoiled me with there service department.
