Default oil & u-joints: type

Just bought this truck a few months ago and it's coming up on an oil change. It has 56K and I'd like to switch it to mobil 1, but I'm not sure what the previous owner was using. Does the 4.7 prefer full synthetic, semi, or conventional. Pretty sure the dealer used conventional before I picked it up. Just don't need any problems down the line if I switch to synthetic.

Also, I'd like to do the rear driveshaft u-joints. Does anyone have a part number for a heavy duty joint with grease fittings. Could just pick one up at the local auto parts shop, but they seem to be cheapos. This is a crew cab short bed with 5-speed, if that makes a difference.

thanks.

I prefer Mobil 1 full synthetic in these engines because it's less likely to form sludge. Dino oil is fine, also. Just be sure to use the correct weight, a quality filter such as Purolater or Wix and change the oil at the proper intervals.

I use STP in mine after seeing the difference in my old chevy and my brothers chevy that we bought new at the same time. We checked under the valve covers around 150,000 miles and his was clean as a whistle and mine was pure sludge. I've used it faithfully in my 2004 Ram 4.7 that I bought new, and when it blew a head gasket with 150,000 miles, it was clean enough to eat off of. Makes me a believer. I've always used Valvoline oil.
