i know the 3.7 and 4.7 have different part #s.Our 4.7s put out more power then 3.7s do, that will make the TC stall a lil higher for us. i have 70mm TB, HO cams, 4.56 gears, electric fan, underdrive pulley, i tune my own truck via SCT. i will try this mod in few weeks from now, i will report back when iam done.

YEAH i will post when i get this mod done, it will be a cheap mod for all of us if it works. 4.56 gears are great. quick lounch and better mpgs. the draw back of goin that tall of a gear is that theirs no downshift on freeway speeds.

I have 3.55's and when in 5th gear(first overdrive) it puts me at nearly the same rpm as if I were to have 4.10's and be in 6th(second overdrive) and I basically get identical mpg at 70mph. As long as I'm on flat ground, cruising anyway. And I like how much more responsive it feels. I'm just worried going to 4.56 will lose me some mpg.

What mpg do you get on the highway? With the 3.55's I have gotten as high as 22 and 23mpg on long trips. I'd expect with 4.10's to still be able to get 20 mpg easily. I know the older 4.7L isn't as good on gas too though, my dad's 05 only gets ~17mpg hwy with 3.55's.

I am thinking of doing 4.10's and if I want more to drop my tire size an inch and that'd be like doing 4.20-4.30's with stock size tires. Sort of in between.

I dont know the final overdrive ratio on your transmission, but on the 545rfe their pretty high. we can used 4.56 gears and at 65mph and see 2000-2100 rpm. with 4.56 gears i recommend cam or something, it will feel sloppy due to not enough power. you want to go with 4.10 gears? go for it, that will help out your 08. i can see your truck in the high 14s. oh mpgs were about the same if not 1-2mpg improvement

Our trucks have the same 545rfe. I actually have a 2010. 5th is 0.75:1 and 6th is 0.67:1.

I figured with 4.10's and 31" tires 2100 rpm at 70mph
I figured with 4.56's and 31" tires 2300 rpm at 70mph

Not a huge difference but am still worried about the mpg.

With my 3.55's and 31" tires I'm at 1,800 rpm at 70mph.

My truck(quad cab) runs ~16.0 now with drop in filter and SC 93 tune. I also have really heavy aftermarket wheels and tires.

I'm not really looking for fastest 1/4 mile time, just want a nice truck to drive on the street. A lot of people say they get good mpg with the 4.56's but I've never seen anyone claim a number, like say 20mpg with 4.56 at 70mph. I can get 20+mpg now even at 75-80mph and don't mind giving some up but not too much. I rarely drive highway, but once or twice a year we drive half way across the country so it is still somewhat important to me...

I'm planning on a ram air to feed the stock air box, maybe headers if ever available or if I ever attempt to make my own, maggy y pipe and a muffler, and that's about it. I'd probably get cams if they were available and if I needed to pull the top end apart for other reasons...

This is because the 42RLE is used behind the 3.7 in the Ram. Are you sure the splines will match up with a 545RFE?

What about in the jeep liberty? That's where he's getting it from...

Maybe from an older diesel Liberty, but I can't ever recall seeing a 545RFE behind a 3.7.

Ok now I'm really confused lol. Earlier today you posted:

Quote:
The 3.7 can use the 545RFE or the 42RLE transmission
