Cobra & Uniden are 2 fair radios, you will find them in most every big truck & almost every vehicle that has a CB
There are others that are more expensive & transmit further, but a beginner should avoid them for now

Do NOT buy a 2 or 3 knob CB, it would sort of be like buying single ply toilet paper, when you know 2 ply is better for the job at hand

Find the best price on the
https://www.cobra.com/detail/29-ltd-classic.cfm
or
http://www.uniden.com/cb-radios/bear...invt/pc78ltwg/

You won't be dissatisfied
the better the antenna ground the better the cb

I recently got one of the newer Cobra 25 LX, really nice little mid size radio. All the features I wanted, not missing anything I can't easily live without. Little bit easier to find room for than a full size like the Cobra 29, little bit more full featured than the 19's and such, better internals that the really compact radios like the Cobra 75.

I had a 75 before and it was fine, but definitely not the radio the 25 is.

This is all the average user needs:
http://www.uniden.com/cb-radios/comp...nvt/pro520xlg/

If you want radios with range, buy race radios, or go HAM. CB is typically pretty line of sight, and highly susceptible to interference because of the 4w limit.

I'm an over the road driver, so I've done a lot of shopping around for radios, and the best place I've found to but CB's are the Pilot and Flying J truckstops. Loves also has good prices from time to time. Avoid TA, Petro, and most smaller, locally owned truck stops, as their prices are usually pretty outrageous.

Also, don't get suckered on antennas. They list them by the thousands of watts, oil cooled, etc, et al. It's all complete BS. Your CB will put out 4 watts. Even if you get froggy later on and throw a linear to it, there's no need to get crazy. One of the best antennas to get is a 9 foot whip, sometimes called a quarter-wave. They're usually easy to find for around $20 or less.

for antennas, i prefer the WILSON brand
not that the Firesticks are bad

I have a couple that i lend out to fellow Pilot Car drivers

myself i use a Ranger radio & 6' Wilson antenna, but it is a necessary tool in my business, in fact a CB is required by law when Escorting
mine has 10 & 11 meter bands, AM/FM, upper & lower side bands & stupid things like Roger Beep, Echo, etc.
most of these features are not used by Professional Drivers & they can be irritating if used

If you want a good starter radio get a cobra 29. As for antenna just get a 4 ft firestik. You will want to havethe radio peaked & tuned. Ideal minimum deadkey would be 10w. If you wanna get a damn good radio, get a 10 meter. Connex, galaxy, stryker. In a couple of weeks I will be getting a stryker 497 that has been super tuned, converted to 11 meter, dual digital echo, modified digital clarified, nitro knobs. I also will be pairing it with a predator 10k coil antenna and a 400w rms fatboy amp. Its gonna sound fantastic. All the work will be done by a guy in Columbus Ohio who does damn good work. The radio will look exactly like this

I agree. I never buy anything from ta or petro. I normally buy everything I need from pilot. Now that its flying j/pilot, their prices don't vary by much

Roger beeps annoy the shit out of me. But echo is not stupid. It makes the transmit sound much better when used in moderation. Now when drivers turn that shit all the way up, yea that's annoying
Tom, where you gonna be at this upcoming week. Still riding behind those boats out there?
