Default looking at first ram

Looking at buying a 3rd Gen ram. Anything I need to watch out for? How are the transmission on them? Any advice would be awesome!

sorry. looking for gas 1500 ext cab 4x4. looking at an 04 today and an 07 tomorrow.
the 04 is just slt. the 07 is a big horn. dont know too much about the differences between the two. except the milage is the same and the big horn is 6k more. if its just cosmetic i like the slt better. Love the black truck with the black grill. just looks mean imo. but im worried because in my circle of friends the ones with dodges always had transmission problems. one of my buddys works at a transmission shop and said dodge has two transmissions they use commonly. one sucks and one is good. dont remember the type of transmission he said. so just curious what problems people here have run into. not looking for bias answers obviously. and im aware every brand has weak points. just want to know what im looking forward too. Thanks again for any help.

Both of the transmissions will be the same. 545rfe that they have been using for a while. They just started using a reprogrammed version of that trans as a 6 speed in 2012. My old truck was on 04 slt and it was awesome. In 115,000 miles I replaced two wheel bearings, a powers steering cooler and the solenoid pack in the trans. Plus all other regular maintenance was all she needed. She ran great. As long as you treat it well, it will treat you well. It just boils down to what you want.

Big Horn is an SLT, just with more options than a base SLT. The way you described the 04 SLT it sounds like it's a Sport package with painted grill and bumpers.

The 07 will have an updated interior dash, headunit, and different cloth seats as well as newer headlights and taillights. The 07 also has MDS on the engine which will get you maybe one mpg better on the highway so it's really up to which you like better.

First one I drove sucked...found two others...what's the difference between the big horn and the sport?

Big horn - 15,500 with 87k miles
Sport - 14,500 108k miles

Is it worth the mileage difference?
