Default sea foam

i posted in a thread but never got a response.

is it OK to dump a 16 ounce can in my 4.7L? was reading about oil sludge killing the 4.7L's and since i have 157K miles on my truck it doesnt seem like a bad idea to do anyway. just want to make sure its ok to use a whole 16 ounce can in the crank case. ill do it on my next oil change. i was thinkin, a whole can in the crank case, half or whole can in the vac line and one in the tank. how long should i let it idle? and lastly, whats the best vac line to use to suck it though? on my RT, i would use the brake booster line to hit all cylinders. new to this truck and V8's. ill probably put a whole can in the tank and fill up too soon. TIA guys

a friend of mine used it and said you can see everything coming out the exhaust when you run it through, I'd follow the cans label for how much to use, you have a 8 banger so the full can should be fine. as far as wich vac line to use, I always went through the PCV line.

nother ?


i am due for an oil change on the truck in like 200 miles. is it safe to run seafoam through there for like 100-150 miles to clean it out? TIA

If you are planning on running it through the engine through a vacuum line (brake vac line usually) make sure you don't let it suck in the entire bottle with one giant gulp. There has been cases of idiots at dealerships that have damaged engines with hydrolock that way.

Other than that, I've heard it gives good results.

I used seafoam a whyle back and it cleanes out great, the seafom website explains alot about how it works u can use it before an oil change and after.

I just tore down my 2004 4.7 with 150,000 miles, blown head gasket. Clean as a pin inside motor. Why? I use STP with every oil change. My brother and I both bought 1990 Chevy trucks new and he used it and I didn't. When we pulled the valve covers off around 150,000 miles, mine was horrible, and his was clean. When we compared notes, STP was the only difference. He used it and I didn't. I've been a believer ever since.

This is from the FAQ section of the website. I am guessing our engines take 5-6 Quarts and the website states 1.5 OZ per quart so make sure not to add more then a half of a soda coke can of sea foam in. It states Long term usage so I am guessing its safe for a few hundred miles.




The most frequently asked question about using Sea Foam is as follows: “After using Sea Foam in my oil, fuel, or through the vacuum line (to clean deposits from the combustion chamber) do I need to change my oil?” The short answer is: No you don’t have to change your oil after using Sea Foam in any application.See more information about using Sea Foam in oil in the How To Use section of our web site

When using Sea Foam in your fuel or through the vacuum line for carbon cleaning your oil does not need to be changed. Using Sea Foam in your oil, at 1 ½ ounces per quart, is a safe way to clean a crankcase, quiet noisy lifters as you drive. Sea Foam is not a chemical engine flush and therefore, it will not damage internal engine components or plug the oil pick up screen. Sea Foam is a petroleum blend with no chemical additives and is safe for long term cleaning or short term pre-service cleaning.

Sea Foam is a blend of highly refined additive oils and is compatible with all motor oils including synthetics. It is safe for all internal engine components and will not affect any seals, gaskets or o-rings. Sea Foam cleans oil deposits and varnish in your crankcase by safely/slowly re liquefying the old oil residue so contaminants may flow and be filtered. The longer Sea Foam is in your oil the cleaner your crankcase will become. When adding Sea Foam to clean oil, for long term maintenance cleaning, you must check your oil periodically for color and clarity, when your oil looks dirty change it. Because you added cleaning oil (Sea Foam) to your oil you may have to change oil before the expected service interval.

When adding Sea Foam to dirty oil before an oil change, for best results use 1 ½ ounces per quart of oil at least 100 miles before oil is changed.

So to clean out the vacuum lines and intake pull the hose off the back of the PCV valve and sick in a little at a time?
