Default Toy Hauler Towing Questions

I'm about to push the button on a 26' Toy Hauler. Empty it weighs in at about 6100 lbs. Loaded out with a few "toys" (Polaris Ranger and Polaris XP850), tools, water tank filled I'm thinking I'll be between 8500lbs and 9000lbs. I am getting a WDH but do you guys think I'll have any problems towing a rig this heavy? I was hoping to maybe throw a third four wheeler on the bed of the truck. Normal towing will be less from about an hour to about 2 1/2 or 3 hours on mainly country roads with some hills. Any thoughts or suggestions? Also, how do I know what gears I have?

IIRC the 2011/12 tow limits for a quad cab 1500 5.7 hemi with the tow package was only 9,000lbs.... You are damned close to your limit.

IMHO you really should have a 2/3500 for a trailer that heavy. I wouldn't consider a trailer that heavy without D/E rated tires, as they've had a habit of putting P rated tires on 1500s for some time now. You'll have some hairy moments with that trailer if you get into heavy wind, or riding next to transport trucks with a heavy wash. Your truck doesn't weigh as much as a 2/3500 so the trailer will drive the truck, not the other way around.

I thought it was a 10,000lb rating?

Yea, I spoke with the dealership where I bought it and they pretty much confirmed a tow capacity of 8750 but they did say to double check driver's door sticker to confirm. I guess they come pretty much standard with 3:55 gears. Bummer but at least I found out before I dropped the cash on the toy hauler.

Confirmed the 3:55 gears. Big time bummer.

Definitely too big of a toy hauler for a 1500 IMO. Sorry

And if you are near the limit, why the heck would you tow with full water tanks ?

My camper is ~ 6000 lbs, and I never tow with full tanks. I always fill them when I get there. Granted, the 45 gal tank in my camper ain't much, but it's still an extra 350 lbs or so I don't need to carry. And with my camper being a 1976 model, I ain't so sure I want to risk towing long distances with them full.

The only time I tow with the tanks even close to full is when I am sanitizing them at the start of the hunting season, and then I only tow it around town for maybe 15 or 20 minutes to slosh water around in the tank before I go home and drain it out.

Wow, that is way too big for your truck. Also add the typical 1000lbs of gear that is in a typical camping trailer in plates, pots, pans, clothes, bug spray, chairs....... and you'll probably be closer to 11,000 lbs. Let alone the tongue weight that will max out your trucks payload (don't think about putting anything else in your bed).

Thanks for the feedback. I backed out of the deal and am now in search of a small motorhome instead of the toy hauler.
