your build date is in the drivers door compliance label.

Don't post here much, but lurk somewhat, just to stay current. This thread has got me concerned due to a 600 mi road trip I got coming up.My wife will be driving due to me having a broken right leg. This shit sounds scary from some of the posts I've read.Anyway,I've tried running my VIN,and it shows no recalls due, except some have said Dodge hasn't "issued" an official recall yet.I've looked through all my paperwork for the build date, and cannot find it....unless I missed it and someone can direct me there.I had my wife go look on the driver door for it,and no luck.Soooo,I hobbled my ass out and looked for myself. No sale. Then I remembered I had to have some bodywork done on the driver side door due to me being a dumbass back in May.Don't ask.So now I don't have the sticker on the door anymore due to it getting re-painted,only the tire psi one on the frame. So,my question is,after all this,is where else can I find out when my build date was?The only thing I found on my paperwork was that it was built at the Warren Plant.Sorry for the longwinded post.

Has anyone on this thread had experience with this failure? This just happened to me last night. I had not heard anything about this issue, but the tow truck driver said it was pretty common. I am a little concerned. I spoke with Chrysler customer service, and my truck does not fall under this recall even though the build date is 10/09. However the rear diff part # on the build sheet does fall under this recall. Currently my truck is sitting in front of the house with the drive shaft hanging. Drive shaft is pretty scarred, and not sure what damage has been done to rear diff. Not looking forward to any out of pocket expenses. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Nick,

This happened to me about a month ago. First, file a claim with the chrysler service corp. I have the number if you need it. You can also go to their web page and file the claim on there too. They should call you with in two days. Next, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureu. The better business bureu filed a complaint and had my tow bill payed for me. The chrysler corp after filing the complaint and threatning lawsuit comped me for a chrysler rental vehcile. The dealership was not helpful at all except the girl at the service counter. The service manager was useless and would not even give me the number for chrysler until I requested it. He also denied knowing anything about the ongoing issue. He also tried to tell me that nothing broke except for the nut coming off. Luckily I had done research and had the parts list in front of me for most of the trucks repaired with this issue. There is a thread on here that has the parts list posted. My drive shaft was not replaced.

I do think I have some transmission issues since mine broke. Mine come loose at almost 40mph. I hope everyone that has this issue sticks it to Chrysler and makes them pay for letting this issue go so long. Before I forget, my truck is also not on the recall list. Even though it obviosly had the issue. I was told to call the chrysler rep. back and he will arrange an appointment with the dealership to still install the part issued in the recall.

I hope this helps you and good luck. After this issue. I have no faith in Dodge, or their dealerships.

well our truck is not in this "recall" group due to the manufacture date being earlier in 2009. BUT guess what happened Friday Night? You got it, rear end seized and drive shaft fell out. Had to be towed and it now sits at the dealership. Let me just say, it was just there a few months ago for a transmission problem where it was "rebuilt" So now we wonder if the tech forgot to put the parts back on correctly or if it is due to the recall issues. Regardless, we are glad we were only going 35mph when it happened or things would have been ugly. We will see what happens tomorrow.

it amazes me that they announce a recall but sit on their hands to notify people over something that can be very serious. Unfortunately, or fortunately with all the issues in the thread, i unloaded my truck today. Going to miss the beast, it had been 50K miles of trouble free driving.

NHTSA Action Number: PE12021

2009 DODGE / RAM 1500

Component(s):
POWER TRAIN

Date Investigation Opened:
July 19, 2012

Date Investigation Closed:
Open

Summary:
The Office of Defects Investigation has received 12 complaints alleging rear differential failures resulting in rear wheel lock-up in model year (MY) 2009 through 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks. The complaints allege failures at various speeds with eight of the incidents reporting failures at speeds of 35 mph or greater. Four of the complaints involving higher speed incidents allege that the failure resulted in a loss of control (e.g., vehicle spin, skid or yaw), including one resulting in a crash into a concrete barrier. One complaint reports that the failure was caused by loosening of the rear differential pinion nut. Most of the complaints allege that the failure resulted in drive shaft failure including one that reported the detached shaft end punctured the fuel tank. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences of the alleged defect.

Just posted my failure here: http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=125957

Also filed a complaint with NHTSA as well.

Truck is at dealership - told them I didn't want the patch job repairs they were suggesting. Chrysler has been notified and working with them and the dealer to replace the differential entirely.

11/09 here.

I just got off the phone with Chrysler and they told me that it hasn't been issued out yet and that they let the dealerships know; but are gonna sit on it for two months or so... That's a load of crap.
