Previous owner of the truck had these tires on it. I need new tires soon so I will be going back to stock size. Most likely getting the Cooper Zeon LTZ's.

I know this is an old post. I wish I'd found this post about 8 hours ago. I thought I did my research before starting my Bilstein 5100 adjustable install. I came across the infamous seized lower strut bolt. Drivers side took about 20 minutes to get the stock shock out. Passenger side took about 5 hours! I was thinking all kinds of things. I bought my rig used. This f-ING was crashed, wrong bushing used, I'm selling it.. Going crazy! Bottom line in my case is the metal tube that the lower strut/shock bolt goes through was shaped like an hour glass. MF'ER actually stalled my 400# pneumatic gun.. (I looked up the specs.) I'd about given up. I put the nut back on and put the gun on the to pull it back through & that gave me hope. Started working back & forth, a little heat, beat it with the BFH, got it to bite in reverse, then back to forward. Put some grease on the threads the back to reverse. . Took me about 4 hours! SOB I thought I was phucked. I'm so glad I found this post. If the other side was like this I woulda snapped for sure. How does the sleeve get hourglassed like that? Musta been way over torqued. That's just wrong! MF'er! That's bullshit!

Thanks Melba for posting this. You saved me from selling my truck. GD I'm still pissed. I need beer!

Glad I could help! Until I had the bolt loosened with the Johnson bar my 400# impact gun wouldn't budge it at all.

Actually after I did this swap I went out and purchased a 24" Johnson bar for more leverage on future projects.

Not difficult at all. Just soak them with penetrating oil (wd-40 or equivalent) for a couple minutes if they don't come off with a couple taps from a hammer at first

Default Great write up

Good to see you share your experience.I decided to put the 5100's on my 07 and they needed to be set in the third groove.I know very much of having trouble removing those lower bolts.I had to cut the lower bolts of both sides and in effort of damaging one bushing I installed new bushings in both lower arms.i even went an extra step and replaced both upper CA's which have GREASABLE Ball Joints! and new sway bar end links. The 2 bolts I had to cut had to be replaced with dealer only bolts to make me happy and the cost?About $30 for the bolts with nuts. I also done the antiseize and even added it to many other areas. So even though my weekend adventure went for a few more days......now that shes been aligned and sits just perfect I am very pleased.Yet to have driven beyond a 100 miles since the change, but I couldn't be happier!

For the originator of this thread and for the hero who posted all the torque specs...THANK YOU for the write ups. Just came in from my 6hr Bilstein 5100 install on my '08 Ram 4x4. My passenger side lower bolt came right out with the impact. But the driver side...it was stuck good. Worked it with pb blaster, some torch heat, some twisting with a 4' breaker bar, and my sledge...and she came loose. With more lube and my air hammer, she came out. Used antiseize on both lower bolts.

Went for the full 2.1" of front lift. Actually broke one spring compressor. It's was a harbor freight POS. I had the safety chain on the spring, so it didn't rocket off into the shop (or me). SO DO NOT TRUST THE HARBOR FREIGHT SPRING COMPRESSOR!!!! I borrowed one from Advance Auto, much nicer and heavier. Did the job easy. Tires get installed saturday, 35x12.50-20's.

Again, thank you for the write-up!!!!
