Default Loud Shift Interlock Solenoid

This morning the shift interlock solenoid started making a loud "click" noise every time it actuates, when the key is on, the shift lever is in park, and the brake pedal is depressed.

I'm having the dealer service dept. look at it next week, but in the meantime, has anyone here had this problem?

Bill

BUMP. No one had this problem yet? I'll post back the dealer's response and action.

Is it still working? How do you know its the actuator and not the u-joints making the racket? I am not trying to be an ass, simply curious what let you to your findings.

I have nearly 70k and havent had any issues that werent caused by a retarded technician, which sometimes is myself

Hey Army,

The shift interlock solenoid is in the dash, directly behind the steering wheel. It keeps the shift lever locked in Park unless the brake pedal is depressed, preventing it from dropping into gear on its own.

I could hear the sound coming from that area, and feel the tapping when I put my fingers on the solenoid and actuated it with the brake pedal.

Like I said in my original post, the shift interlock solenoid only actuates when the shift selector is in "Park", so that rules out any problem with the U joints. How could they make noise if they're not rotating?

And yes, it's still working (releasing the shift lever from Park only when the brake pedal is pressed).

Two more days and it's the dealers problem.

The dealer will be replacing the shift interlock solenoid as soon as it arrives.

Mine started making noise this morning. I just passed 2000 miles on the odometer! While started. Brake pedal depressed, shifting from park...snap. I actually feel it in the shift lever when it happens. It is an easy fix for the dealer? I hesitate because vehicles often leave the dealership with more problems than they arrived with.

18000 kms and my 2012 ram 1500 kept getting stuck in park. Would have to fight with it for awhile until i kept pressing the brake to hear a click sound...finally I took it into the dealership where it completely crapped out and was stuck in park. Replaced under warranty without any issues....
