All cold air intakes seem to be that way unless you run pipe out side like a snorkel. What would you suggest? I really appriciated the info on the ex aughts you gave I always thought flos were the way to go. Thanks,

Well there are some intakes that have enclosed boxes that would be the way to go. Honestly the stock intake is pretty good with one downfall. It has a nice large filter in an enclosed box but draws air from the fender well which draws air through a ~1" hole near the headlight. Many people use a drop in high flow filter, and just run a tube from the inlet of the stock airbox to somewhere like under the bumper to get more airflow(and cold air). Some also replace the resonator(between the airbox and throttle body but this does very little for performance, it's mostly for looks. If you get a drop in filter ~$50 and just run a different pipe from the airbox you'd be as good as any other intake(maybe even better). I use an airaid dry drop in(oil less) and have the airaid modular intake tube(mainly for looks like I said above) and run a tube down under the bumper(temporary). I plan on making a ram air scoop out of FG or alum one day to feed the stock airbox. This would be better than any CAI on the market.

^yeah there's a good example.

The thing is most of them still draw air from that same ~1" hole, so really if you used the stock airbox and came up with a good way to draw air to the airbox from outside the engine bay you'd be better off than those ones.

I know how I'm going to do mine but i'ts fairly involved and I haven't got around to it. My buddy and I were going to try and make them and sell them but we decided against it and are just going to make one for my truck. It'll be significantly easier to make one(don't need to save the mold) than to try to make a reproducible piece.

Single in dual out flow master dumped with two 4" x 22" echo tips right before the rear axle. Sound amazing and only cost 80 bucks if you know how to weld.

Look into diablo predator and SCT they are good as well. Superchips just has great performance compared to diablo in my experience(SC tunes ran faster 1/4 miles than the diablo tunes) along with other things like easier starting with the SC compared to the diablo(SC did not advance timing at startup where as diablo did and made it difficult to start). And SC gives you transmission tuning.

I have no experience with SCT though but hear great things.
very good info. thankyou. i think i will be getting the superchips for my intake and exhaust, and the trans tuning is a nice touch too. does the SC work as a flash? or do u have to keep it plugged in to the OBD? im guessing it is like a cobb acessport
