Default Made my own GPS dash mount...

I don't like using windshield suction cup mounts, or have a big beanbag contraption on the dash, SO I made my own mount to use the existing suction cup base. Also mounted my cell phone holder next to it.

The holes I drilled to run cords behind dash bezel can be completely covered by the rubber piece that fits in the recess if I want to undo all of it. Not that I plan on getting rid of my Ram anytime in the next 10yrs...

Awesome idea! Nice little mod, sure wish I would have thought of that on my old Dakota.

Very nice looking setup, man. I really like the positioning in the line of site but not in the windshield. Is the cell phone mount screwed in, too?

Thanks for the compliments. Wasn't sure if anyone else would like it. I wanted to still be able to easily grab the Garmin & suction cup mount and stick it in another vehicle if needed.

The cell phone holder is an Arkon brand mount. I had it mounted to the dash of my last truck. The dash had a 4x4 delete plate that I mounted it to.

I had to modify the base to get it inside the recessed tray on my Ram. It is a really nice "universal" mount because they make a variety of specific device attachments that clip on & off of this base.

Since I didn't need it to swivel, I trimmed the tabs off the base, drilled out the hole where it was screwed together to allow it to swivel, then removed the recessed tray on my dash and used a bolt thru and put a washer and nut on the inside. I had to drill a hole in the plastic dash brace for the bottom of the bolt & nut to clear.

While I had the dash apart, I also wired the Accessory outlet to Battery, and wired in 2 other outlets, mounted behind the radio bezel, for the GPS and my phone charging cord. I bought a phone cable with 90* ends, so it "flows" better when connected to my phone in the holder.

I can have both devices plugged in, with no cords dangling across the dash, and have both dash outlets available for whatever...

Nice Mod

Out here in California, they have a law against suction cups on windshields,
1 Highway Patrol that i know, gives tickets out, just to test the law, he really does not care if the Judge throws it out, if several of them go before the bench, having them thrown out will set a Precedent of Law

Another law, states that nothing can be placed on the dashboard that obstructs the view through the glass, its strange our damn windshield wipers already stick up there

I stick my GPS in the exact same spot on top of the vent. The Laramie is painted in that spot and the suction cup sticks right to it. Perfect spot for the GPS for sure!

I tried that on mine, but it wouldn't stay stuck overnight.
