Default Empty hole in valve cover, what is it????

My sons friend recently got a 94 1/2 ton 4X4 with 5.2 engine. We have been doing standard tune-up, i.e. plugs, wires, pcv valve, rotar, and cap. while under the hood I noticed an opening on the drivers side valve cover and can not figure what should be in it. It is almost the size of a quarter plus/minus. We replaced the pcv valve on the passenger side. Any help identifying what the hole is for would be a great help.

thanks

a lot of the time, the PCV valve can go into either valve cover, depending on different engine options
the hole not used for the PCV valve, usually just gets a rubber plug in it
i have seen some people put in 2 pvc valves, run them to a T fitting & then to either the air cleaner or to the intake manifold

I thought about plugging, just have to find a large plug. The hole is to large for a pcv valve.

first a grommet goes into the hole, then the plug or PVC valve

If there is a pcv valve on the opposite side of the engine, it is likely a breather. The engine sucks in air from one valve cover and evacuates the pressure on the opposite valve cover(pcv valve). It should not be plugged, and should be filtered. Can run a hose from it to the intake(filtered side) or use a small breather cap.
