you could always do a wire transfer they clear in a day and I have never had a problem with them. Most banks charge a small fee to send it and receive it. I had a guy send me one it was $15 on each end

someone correct me if I'm wrong....

A cashier's check is no different than a postal money order, other than who is issuing it. It's supposed to be "certified funds" and I don't think most banks will even put a hold on a certified check.

I would not hesitate to accept a cashier's check, where a personal check would cause me to wait until the funds were posted to my account

good luck

I agree with they are supposedto part, but there have been plenty of cases where people are forging Certified Checks. At least if they are forging or sending you a stolen USPS Money Order then they take the risk of having the Feds involved. I like the other option of having it wired to you but I would have the send it to Western Union at their cost. Why give them your bank account information, they should not need it.

Thanks for all the replies. He sent a personal check. When it gets here I will take it to the bank and discuss it with the bank, and have them notify me once it clears. Once it clears I'll ship the part. The buyer says he's ok with that.

When i sell or buy something like a vehicle, i just go to either their or my financial institution, & do the money exchange & paper signing at a tellers window or a bank persons desk.
Money, especially $100 bills is commonly counterfeited
Checks can be counterfeited, can have insufficient funds, etc.
American Express Cards & Checks are hard to use or cash any where

You just have to take the extra steps, while doing business these days

Under the circumstances I would not hesitate to accept his personal check. I am also one of those dinosaurs that still uses personal checks for those times paypal is not an option. I understand that in today's society I may have to wait for the receiver to have the check cleared before they ship the product, and for the most part I am completely OK with that. If time is of the essence, then I will spend the $, time and effort to get a money order or bank draft. Since these options are very expensive (especially if your self employed and every minute counts) I will only go that route if I have no other alternative.

I am prepared to nix a transaction if the seller is not prepared to at least consider my side as well. If you get self centered or greedy with me, I turn around and walk away and you are looking for a new customer.

IMO Sean, you are doing the right and noble thing by both accepting a traditional method of payment and protecting yourself by following GTyankee's advice and discussing this transaction and your concerns with your bank. I'm pretty sure you pay service fees at your bank, so now you get to collect on some of the $ you have been paying them.

Good luck with your transaction for being considerate instead of hard nosed.

Not sure....I went in and deposited it last week though. They said it's all good and to just wait until about monday or tuesday and as long as it hasn't thrown any red flags it'll be cleared by then. I'll probably wait until wednesday or thursday, then ship...
