Default Engine swap.

Just curious if a 6.1 Hemi will bolt up to the transmission in my 2004 Ram that currently has a 5.7 Hemi?

Yes it will. Is it a long block or short block? 6.1 heads have different shape and size ports on them, also the front cover is different for install in the cars. You can't use the stock 6.1 intake manifold without a few modifications (wiring, timing cover, convert to elec fan, etc). You can bolt your stock intake to the 6.1 heads, but it will be a heinous port mismatch. That being the case you'd be better off bolting your 5.7 heads and intake to a 6.1 short block until you do the necessary mods. On top of all this, you will need some form of custom tune.

What about the 5.7 out of a Magnum? When did the HP change on the 5.7 engines for the pickups? Mine currently has 170k on it. No mods, but it's staring to smoke. Just hopin to get it thru the winter cuz it's our daily driver. Really wont have the time to do a rebuild. Lookin for some easy and inexpensive HP mods for the new engine. Was really hopin the 6.1 swap wouldnt be as much of a hassle.

The basic long block (except for MDS) is the same from 2003 to 2008, both cars and trucks. The cars have a different accessory drive setup. The redesign was in 2009, none of that will be a direct fit.

Mine is an 04. Was lookin for a 6.1 06-08. What kind of HP do you think i would have from putting my heads and intake on a 6.1? If I done that, would the power steering, a/c and alternator bolt up without any issues?

Depends on what cam and tuning you use. If you put your original timing cover on, all of you accessories will bolt up just like factory.

Prolly just factory cam and tuning on the 6.1. It's her daily driver and she gets a heavy foot once in a while. It's good to know that everything will bolt up using my heads and intake. I may have some 6.1 parts for sale next spring then.

Where is a good place to buy a NEW fuel tank? I had to replace mine last winter along with a new fuel pump. Problem is now my computer is telling my the vent lines are leaking. I figured they would cuz I had to use rubber hose and small clamps on the vent lines that broke. If i keep up, I am gonna have a project next spring. If I change my 5.7 for a 6.1 and I am seriously considering putting a wooden bed on. It'll sure be different. But please let me know where to get a NEW gas tank. Thanks!!
