Default 05-06??

I need help, I want to buy a new ram but I'm not sure which one to get. I either want a 2005 or 2006 dodge ram 1500. Does anyone know if there is a big difference between the two and which one would be worth buying?!

There are some differences as things switched like suspension. 2006 was 1st year for coil front, and prior had torsion bars. 2006 was the 1st year you could get the MDS system. Interior wise was also changed... I know that 2005 is one of the best to mod with a tuner

There are some exterior changes as well between the 05 and 06. They changed the front bumper and grille along with the headlights. I think thats about it from an exterior standpoint though.

When I recently got my truck (an 07') I was debating between an 05' and 06'. Ultimately, form looking at the interiors and the rims, I decided I wanted an 06'. The interior looks much more updated, and personally, I find the 5 spoke chrome wheels on the 05's (the fat looking ones) to be hideous. There are other differences but I wasn't aware of those at the time. I got lucky and found a good 07' (even more updated the than the 06') for a good price. If you could do that, I would. But if you can't, I'd definitely go with an 06'.

The most obvious changes to the 2006 are the addition of MDS, CAN bus data networking, suspension, front end redesign, and the interior. One of the big differences you don't see is the change in valve springs. Pre-2006 model Hemi springs are more prone to failure. This isn't to say that you will have a spring failure if you buy an '05 but it remains a possibility. I personally haven't seen a spring break in the '06 and newer engines.
