Default How can i make my 05 ram 1500 4.7 flex fuel

I have a single cab 05 dodge ram 1500 4.7. I was wondering what all i would have to do to make my truck flex fuel so i can run whatever gas i want to in it. Ive noticed that if i put lower grade gas in my truck it will idle ruff and low. Please help out if you can.

Flex fuel is for running ethanol fuel and has nothing to do with octane ratings.

Thumbs down

The mileage you lose with e85 really doesn't make it worth it IMO

everything from the computer(maybe just a reprog there) to the entire fuel system has to change. for one thing the seals in a non-E85 rated engine will break down after exposure to E85.

my wife's SLT is flex, and we ran a test between 89 oct and E85. on 89 oct she gets about 25mpg highway, on E85 she gets about 16!! so the price at current regular gas prices has to be close to 1.00 cheaper on E85 to make it worth running it. as it is though, E85 here is only about 0.65 cheaper and thus it costs us more to get the same total driven miles.

i agree with david. dont bother with e85 but are you thinking about trying mid-range or premium?? if so, if you get a tuner, some of them have the ability to tune your truck for that specific type of fuel
