Default thoughts?

I'm trying to decided whether to trade in my 09 Frontier CC SE on a '12 Ram Outdoorsman. I have been going back and forth between the Ram and the F150. I have driven them both and they both drove very well but the F150 commands a 5-6k premium on the price.

With my trade-in and rebates I can get a Outdoorsman for about 25k and I like the payment on that over the 31k the ford commanded but I want to make sure I get a reliable truck as my current nissan has never had a problem in 55k miles.

I had an 07 dakota that I bought used with 17k on the clock that gave me nothing but grief and was glad to be rid of in after the ~10 months I owned it and I don't want to end up in that situation again.

I know there will be some bias posting this on a ram forum but I could use some insite.

Thanks

I'm biased, but nonetheless I'd go with the ram. I've never liked Ford, and if you were to get the Ecoboost engine, those are starting to run into a lot problems I hear.

yes, it's a nissan, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place and would get rid of it ASAP for really... any ford chevy or dodge.

And I tend to like Rams over the underpowered fords and onstar tracked chevys.

I've actually never had any problems with my Frontier and it has been a great truck but its time to do some maintanance on it and before I spend the money to finish it all I'm just checking on all my options.

I'm really leaning towards doing the deal and getting the trade done at this point in time. I just have to wait till Friday till I can do it...

Do you need a bigger vehicle for towing or is it you would just like a newer truck?

I love my Crewcab Sport, but if I was going to get the Ford it would be nice to have the ecoboost. Either truck would be nice to have new.

Let us know what you do!

One of my buddies at work just picked up a 12 F150 Ecoboost, fairly full load, buckets console, crew cab etc. Nice truck and comparing it to my 11 Ram interior fit and finish...Ram. Crew Cab space....Ford. Power off the line...toss up here, if you manual shift your Ram, Ram wins, leave it in Drive...Ford. As far as price and creature features Ram wins hands down for bang for buck. He paid damn near same price as I did and I came away with a fully loaded truck with Nav, rear seat DVD, you name it and his is a nice load with leather, heated seats and what not but Ram gave me more.
TO be perfectly honest you can't go wrong with either truck. Both manufacturers have issues and it's a crap shoot if yours will be a lemon or not. What it all comes down to is which truck makes you smile more and if that doesn't work go with options for money spent. I was never one for a truck full of toys but now that I have them, I'll never go back

make sure the outdoorsman has the hemi. sounds like your not getting a great trade in price on the nissan. one thing you may want to consider is the standard warranty on a ram vs ford. the only other thing i would say, is you decide not to get a ram, go with a gmc/chevy over the ford.

I think I'm doing good on the Nissan. MSRP was about 28k when I bought it and I actually paid about 22k for it over 3 years ago.

The outdoorsman I'm lookin at has the 5.7 hemi. Not a big gmc fan though so I think I've decided on the ram just have to wait till Friday and it will. Be mine.

I think that you're making the correct decision. The 4th gen Rams are great trucks.

I've had my '10 Crew Cab Sport for a little over two years, have a little over 20K on the clock, and have not had a single issue.

It's the best riding truck I've ever owned, and I dare say that it rides better than many cars. It truly is a country Cadillac!

good luck, and be sure to post pics when you bring it home

i have been lookingat an outdoorsman as well. msrp, 39500.00, can get that down to 30000.00, means you are getting about 5000.00 for your trade. i think that is a low trade in price.
