If you really want to be different you could always have your current steps sprayed with Line-x or Rhino lining. Painting your current grille or building a custom insert is always an option.

Honestly a cheap way to see if you want black anything is to plasti-dip them. i know there are people on here that have plasi-dipped there side steps and i have plasti-dipped all of my chrome pieces on my truck and it looks alot better. plus, like i said, its cheap. about $5 or $6 a can at a hardware store like lowes or home depot

I thought about plasti-dipping my step bars but I decided to use rustoleum truck bed liner found at home depot or Lowe's. First I removed the plastic steps, washed the chrome bars, sanded them down with I think 600 grit sand paper until they were hazy and washed them again and rubbed it all down with rubbing alcohol. Next I sprayed them with a self etching primer and then finally sprayed them with the rustoleum truck bed liner. I'd say I used 3 coats of each on each step bar. They have a rough texture but not overly textured like I think line-x would be. I don't have any close up pictures but here is a couple I have.

Honestly I would have done line-x if the funds permitted but you can't really beat ~$6 a can for the rustoleum lol.

I looked at a bunch before I picked mine. Went with the 6" westins. The Mrs can climb on them very easily with no issues and I think they look a lot better than the smaller ones.

sorry I didn't wash it first. I was just trying to be helpful for visuals.
