Default start up issues

i have a dodge ram 1500 2wd 5.2 and if its been sitting all day and i go start it and shift into drive right away and push the gas, itll rev up for a few seconds and then barely start to crawl, then after like 5 seconds of being on or off the gas itll start going fine. any ideas on how to fix this problem?

I'm inclined to think you have a transmission issue such as a loss of prime in the pump. By chance, have you taken the check valve out of the transmission lines? Any codes in the PCM or TCM?

Sounds like torque converter drainback. Dodge instituted the anti-drainback checkball to prevent that, another bad idea. Eventually it corrodes and gets stuck. Stuck open means no drainback control. Stuck shut means a fried transmission. Standard fare is to replace the valve. My preference is to eliminate the valve and have a proper aftermarket valve body kit (Sonnax, TransGo, Fairbanks) installed. Not only will it control drainback, but will improve lube and overall function. In the meantime, on cold starts, shift to neutral for a couple seconds, then to forward or reverse and proceed. The time in neutral will allow the converter to charge and respond normally.
