Like I said, manifolds, y pipe, and muffler are the only bad points in the oem exhaust. Don't bother replacing anything else. If you replace some pipe with something from a local exhaust shop 99% chance you will be getting mild steel and crush bends(as opposed to the oem SS and mandrel bends). You can get a muffler for ~$100 and welded on for probably ~$50-$100. You don't have to get magnaflow, they are great, but there are other good ones out there too.
You can probably get a good y pipe and muffler and install for $300.

Now we're getting somewhere. If the stock pipe is SS then it shouldnt be rusted, maybe just an outer layer but when cleaned up they look good?

So since Im not going cat back and not going duals... but still want some rumble with no drone would you still recomend the 24" over the 18"? I do want some rumble and especially if I step on it.

24" will be pretty quiet....most like the 18".

The 4th gen rams stock exhaust I know is SS, I assume yours is too. SS can still rust, FYI. It should be called stain resistant steel lol.

Also, I believe it is 409 SS which will form an outer layer of surface rust when used with exhaust gases. It looks bad but protects the pipe from rusting further.

Snrusnak, your full of usefull information.... thanks again. Think I'll shoot for the 18" seeing as how the truck is the toy now so might as well make sure I can have fun!

I certainly will.

Just one more problem, Looking on this website there are more than one oval magnaflow muffler that will fit my truck. Cant seem to tell which one I need. I selected my truck and 18" magnaflow and I am getting all kinds.
The site does not tell me what my current inlet.outlet size is (dont have my truck to measure at work). Also some are straight in straight out and others are offset. How do I tell which will fit my current stock setup?

http://www.truckchamp.com/magnaflow/...odylength/18in.

The link does not take you to the part of the site I was in. Woul dit be best to look at my muffler now, see if its offset anywhere and measure and just go from there?

I know the later rams are single 3" in/single 3" out for the oem single exhaust. I assume yours would be the same, but check first. i don't know about the offset, you might want to talk to the exhaust shop first. Either way, they will be able to bend a connecting pipe to make it work, but it won't be mandrel bent, it will be crush bent(reduces performance) and will not be SS like oem exhaust, it will be mild steel most likely. So try to avoid this. You might be able to buy a $20 piece of pipe online with the muffler that has a mandrel bend and small straight section out of SS and have them cut and weld that in.

Got my 18" Magnaflow and y pipe installed, the exit is in front of the tire now. The drone is overkill, maybe cause the muffler is under the passenger rear seat. open to suggestions, starting with the cheapest first, on how to quiet this beast. I love it at some points but not most.

Moving the exit to behind the axle should help.

Thats what i was thinking, the shop called and asked where I wanted it to exit. He said it would quiet it down a good bit coming out the back and I said no, that I wanted to know where my money went... my mistake! I wasnt expecting such a big sound from one pipe... speaks to my lack of exhaust knowledge. For the money I would rather have the body lift. Oh well, just hope I can get it to a point that I like.

Thanks for all the responses, pics coming soon.

I love my 18" magnaflow, added noise and a tad more performance! Good choice!
