My tint is done. Now have 35% front, 5% eyebrow and (I believe) 20% factory rear. I am very pleased with the work overall but...

The eyebrow did not turn out the way I had wanted. I showed them one of dodgert's pictures and explained how I want the bottom of the tint strip to be even with the bottom of the center applique and then bow out.. identical to the picture. This is not how my strip ended up. They explained that they had to shorten the width of the strip (essentially, the bottom edge cutting through the applique) because the ends by the a pillars would have ended up below the AS-1 line.. making the install illegal.

I am not so sure on this since I have seen plenty of other rigs, here and elsewhere, with a strip extending below the AS-1 line. And I was told by a UHP officer that tint strips are fine as long as the main field of view is above the AS-1 line - so the install that I wanted would have been fine.

Right now, I have mixed feelings about the strip. I am wishing I didn't have that damn applique in the middle. Without it, this tint strip would look just fine. But the way it sits now, it just looks horrible. Albeit, it is very functional.. it just appears to be out of place.

Thoughts? Any way I can fix this?

The shop I went to charged me cash and I received no receipt since they installed a, technically, illegal tint on my fronts. Do you think it is worth a try to have them redo the strip the way I want since they have already performed illegal work for me?

And pics..

i like the look of it. but they should have came back and followed the curves off the original applique on the windshield. meaning they should have blacked out the entire ram not just cut through it. that or they should not have put anything in the middle.

Boy.. you should just come on over to Tennessee. I got 18% tint all around, which is illegal, and a receipt that includes lifetime warranty on the tint!

Yeah I honestly think you are gunna have to deal with that thanks to where you are located. In some areas, like in Florida, they are so scared of having the cops come in and start metering cars they are working on. They could be fined and all this other crap. That's also why you don't get any record of them doing the job.

I guess in Tennessee they look at the tint as an after thought. That or I live life on the edge.

I really don't think it looks bad, Kai. But my opinion doesn't count. If your not happy with it, they should fix it. They should have checked with you first to get an OK before applying it, IMO.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'm going to go and talk with them Monday and insist that they take the brow off and do it the way I requested to begin with (and that they AGREED to!) when I dropped the truck off.

I have been looking over the pics and even went out and sat in my truck for a bit and I cannot get over how it cuts right through the logo. I. Just. Can't.

I paid for this and so it should be done how I want it done. There is no trail leading back to them. If I get a ticket or whatever I will be responsible. So they should have no problem doing what I want.

And about receipts vs. legality.. I do have a lifetime warranty on the work. I suppose you can call it a 'gentleman's agreement with a lady'.. they swear I can return if ever a problem arises.

I really think it wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't for the logo on the windshield. If it wasn't there, this strip install would not be an issue at all. But they don't seem to think the same way that I do. It looks TERRIBLE! You can't just cut through an existing logo and expect it to look good! Ugh.

I agree with most others, if it's not done the way you wanted it done get it fixed properly or have them remove it and get your money back period. It would bug me too the way it cuts through the logo.

Called the tint shop and spoke with the manager today. I expressed my disappointment in the eyebrow strip and how I'd like to have them redo it that way I asked them to in the first place. He said he's had buddies pulled over and ticketed for having tint below the AS-1 line. I told him I want them to either 1) redo it the way I want them to or 2) pull it off and give me a refund.

I go in on Wednesday to discuss the details of how I want it. And, if we can agree and he can do it my way, I'll drop the truck back off at 6pm when they do their tint jobs. If not, I'll have no strip but will have my cash back.

Either way, I will get what I want. Strip right or money back. Period. I'm sticking to my guns on this one guys!
