Who is looking at a cam swap?

At a glance, Comp Cams Hemi Phaser "274" Camshaft for VVT 5.7L looks to be a solid contender for a cam swap.

Some threads I've read say that the test vehicle had aftermarket valve springs and a larger throttle body, while some do not mention these mods.

From what I've read, it looks like HHP has to tune in person. This requires that you fly their tuner out to your location, or you take the truck to them.

On the safe side, you'll need cam, phaser lock/limiter, springs, tune, and installation of course. ($3000-4000)

Only a few guys have this cam, and some have mentioned that tuning has been an issue.

Does anybody have any info to add?

I do not as of now, once the tune is fully released we will have much more info we have had to wait and wait, only a couple weeks left to go and once the tuners are released it is going to open up a whole new world for engine mods i personally CAN NOT wait this is going to be an exciting rest of the year and beginning of next.

I talked to the tuner....he said it was a nightmare. They had weeks into the Challenger that they had the videos of. It did also have springs and retainers swapped. They were also working on better pushrods, because they didn't trust that the stockers would last long with the extra lift.

There is however a cheap 6.4 cam that can be swapped in with just springs and no tune needed.

I've read conflicting info on whether or not the 6.4 uses the same part number for pushrods.

Any cam should get new pushrods, but it works without them. That 274 cam is made for a car though, not a heavy truck. I would stay on the low side of the three comp offerings, unless you plan to keep the tach above 4000 RPM all the time.

challenger weighed in at 4400 with race wheels/tires




rcsb was 4650.

You guys with the 6.4 cam. What kind of power increase are you seeing. Compared to a comps.. Is it really worth the moneyper power ratio. Please elaborate

The 6.4l cam can be had for under $60.00 with some new springs for under $500.00. have not done it yet just waiting for funds to get the springs. I think its well worth it based on the price diff.
