Default Rear end swap/upgrade

The Dana 80 rear diff housing on my dually is just about pooched. I've looked at replacing it with another 80, but the cost vs durability is pretty sad, even with a used unit. I have however, found a Dana 90 out of a heavier series of dodge, at a comparable price. Can the conversion be done, or am I better off just getting an aftermarket locker/housing? Any advice would be much appreciated.
