Default Front parksense not working - “Service” indicated

1,748 miles on the truck. It’s not dirty. No snow or ice. It’s mid 50s here tonight. Pulled up at my house after work and they worked fine. Noticed they didn’t work at my friend’s house but I didn’t think anything of it. I was pulling up to a chain link fence and figured that’s why it didn’t work. Got home and it didn’t work and the service indicator was on.

Sure as hell don’t want to take my truck to the dealer 1,748 miles into its life.

Frustrating.

Why don't you want to take it to the dealer? That is what warranties are for. Shi* happens. With all the electronics on our vehicles today I am surprised it does not happen more. Dealer time.

Hi MMartinCPA,

Sorry to hear about this! If you end up deciding to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

Because it's inconvenient for me to take time out of my schedule to take it to the dealer. I just feel like when you drop the kind of money we do on these trucks, you don't expect to have a warranty claim before you've worn the new off the tires.

Maybe that's just me.

There should be a fuse for the parking sensors - check to see that it hasn't blown. If not, ...

The front parking sensors are all strung together in a wiring loom inside the front bumper. This loom has a quick connect plug located at the inside of the bumper on the driver's side. If you have fog lamps, there will be a second connector for the wiring loom that powers them.

Check to see that the parking sensor loom is still connected by laying on your back and looking up at the connectors on the driver's side of the front bumper. If it looks to be still connected, unplug the loom, check for any contamination or corrosion on the connections (unlikely with a new truck but worth a shot). Plug it back in and see if the problem still exists.

I don't know if the sensors are serially connected (i.e.: if one goes out then they all don't work). There are 6 of them across the front bumper and they snap in from the back side of the bumper. Each also has a snap connector. Make sure they are all securely plugged in.

I have had that message randomly pop up as well. I always thought there was something on the sensors so I wiped them off.
