Default 05 ram 1500 running hot at times

So i got a 05 ram 1500 and it randomly runs a hotter then normal at random times.. its very uncomon and usually heats up sitting in traffic or moving slowly.

It happened to me last winter to the point I had to blast the heat to keep it from over heating. i figured it might of been the fluid so i had it flushed with fresh coolant.

Today on my way to work in trafic it went 3/4 of the way to hot when usually im just under the half point. before going anyhigher i got a chance to get moving to cool it down and once it did go down it didnt heat up again and stayed at the avg temp it usually sits at.

is it possible my T stat is going haywire randomly?

or possibly the water pump?

Have you checked the clutch on your fan? Also, turn on yout A/C an see if the electric cooling fan turns on. Is the fan shroud missing on your radiator? Need more info.

There are 4 things that would possibly cause the heating up while in traffic.

1 missing fan shroud. It ain't just for looks. It actually makes sure that the air the fan pulls in is from the radiator.

2 Radiator fan clutch. If you can move the fan freely with no resistance at all, you got a bad fan clutch.

3 low coolant level. Pretty obvious on that one. if it's low the full height of the radiator doesn't get to do it's job.

4 Poor flow. Usually with this, it's not just sitting in traffic. It's hot all the time. But it can be.

It has the fan shrouds. I never took them off and dont plan on to.

Ill check the fan clutch tonight and see the out come. the fan doesnt seem to have any issues coming on but ill check it.

The over heating is very un comon... this is the 2nd time its happened in a year give or take. Just its not ideal and shouldn't be happening. I dont want it to happen again and be stuck somewhere that time around vs being lucky and having it fix itself.

sorry for the newb question but where is the electric cooling fan located when the AC is turned on

Partial radiator restriction is also a possibility.

keep forgetting to check the fan clutch -.-

I dont think its a partial blockage as the over heating doesnt happen often *like i mentioned it happened 2 times in 1 year. if a blockage was the issue it would of def overheated on me in traffic over this summer running in 90+ weather.

Happens to me quite often. I however did the electric fan mod and dumped my clutch fan.

Did it the other day sitting in traffic, next thing I know it was over 257 degrees.

No idea why, it does this randomly. I know i have no blockage. New thermostat as my motor was just bored out and rebuilt with all new parts.

I did install a new digital temp gauge just too keep a eye on it and every time I sit in traffic it does run a little warmer.

Highway driving - 97 degrees c
City at long lights lights - 110 degrees c

I also have mine wired to a switch inside the cab just in case it does run warmer and I want to make sure the fan is running.

Still get the same results even with it constantly running in traffic. :/

I do need to order the 180t though.
