Default jaw jaring wheel hop

Hi all! I have me a issue with my 96 3500 4x4 diesel. when i hit a good pot hole doing 40- 70 mph i get this nasty wheel hop, like there are no shocks.its so violent, it wont stop unless i pull over. Yet i just replaced the shocks with monroe gas magnums. the old girl has 120 thou on her. You think the springs went soft on me?? I have noticed the front end bottoming out on me when you hit a good bump. Also front driver side wheel very chopped. Thanks for your time Nitro 1

Sounds like your getting the death wobble. I would check your front end for play. the most common problem is the track bar, that's usually the fix on most of the trucks.

Thanks for the reply. How do you check front end play. lift up truck and check track bar for play? There is also a dampener looks like a shock mounted horizontal? When you say say death wobble does the truck bounce up and down or left to right?

To check the track bar, have someone turn the steering wheel while you observe the ball joint end of the bar at the frame. If theres a lot of movement, it's toast. If you can grab the bar by hand and and feel movement, same thing. This can cause lateral or vertical death wobble.
Tie rods can be checked by the same method, and sometimes I'll pry against them with a prybar to see if I see movement in the ball sockets. Ball joints are allowed .125 freeplay any more than that and they are shot.
Cupped or internally damaged tires can cause this... worn out control arm bushings, etc.
