Smile What is the cheapest/most effective exhaust system/set-up to go with.

so i havent been on in a while, but i recently found out that i am going to be a father and i would like to figure out some ways to get better MPG out of my truck. i have a 08 1500 5.7l 6.3ft bed. i got underneith and i saw that dodge installed a giant @$$ muffler, then a smaller one towards the end of the system. i was wondering if i could just take that bigger muffler out, and install some new piping to a small magniflow or whatever. i inted on getting a cold air intake and a programmer in the future, but i figured i would start witht this. anyone have any goode ideas, please let me know.

you have a muffler after the cats and a resonator just before the exit. Removing the resonator may provide a louder tone and occupied by possible resonance but its a cheap option.

That's an option too. Person Preference but it will be loud and may or may not be a issue with a family on the way.

True, but for now I could straight pipe it and add a magniflow muffler later. Do you think there is any long term effects it could have on my engine if I do just straight pipe it art of the cats?

I would be concerned about waking up that new baby with straight pipes. Careful with that new mom, they can be dangerous. You could get cut-outs but there goes your cheap way out. As for the Y pipe I just don't think it's necessary to change it out. Yes the stock one looks like a monkey made it and it is pinched but still has plenty of flow for a stock motor. Best bet? High flow air filter($35) and muffler($150) You will see minimal gains provided you stay of the pedal. Good luck to you.
