Thumbs down 2006 Ram 1500 CD Player Broken

My CD player won't play CD's anymore. It will take the CD in and then spit it out and display "ERR CD". I tried a cleaner CD to no avail.

I don't really want an aftermarket radio and have found a stock on ebay for about $80. My question is what is involved in replacing the broken one? In the text for the replacement on on ebay it has a warning saying that programming by a dealership might be needed. That's what has me worried.

Anyway, thanks for any help!

if you get the same radio as you already have, that won't be needed
you may even be able to upgrade without having to go to a dealership

replace it yourself & see
the dealer does not charge much to flash a radio in

changing the radios out is easy, i see if i can locate a youtube video for you, everything is on youtube these days

which of these radios do you think you have

here you go, it will be similar to this video

IF you have airbags, you may want to disconnect the battery
then you will see 4 screws at the 4 corners of the radio, remove them & gently pull the radio towards you, it should almost fall out

look at what goes where, disconnect the plugs, set the old radio aside & plug the new radio in, put the screws back in, button it up
connect the battery & try it out

That's the exact radio I have.

I'll give it a try; hopefully I don;t need to go to a dealership.

You won't need any re-programming. Stock for stock head unit swaps don't need reprogramming. If you had a Sirius radio subscription you would have to reinitialize that through Sirius but that's about all you'd have to do.
