Default 95 to 98+ dash swap

My dash exploded the other day on me so I got to thinking this is the perfect time to swap in a newer style dash from a 98 or newer truck. Problem is I can't seem to find anyone here who has done this. Did some searching and found a lot of "it will fit, but I'm not sure if the wiring will mate." So my question is has anyone ever actually done this? Am I able to swap the wiring harness over or is there a lot of splicing needed?

I did some looking around and I couldn't find much. It sounds like wiring will be an issue. I promise you it can be done though. It just depends how much time, effort, and money you want to put in it. I suggest going with the same style.
