Default Magnaflow

Had my Magnaflow cat back installed today and I must say I am very impressed. Sounds awesome! I had a Corsa cat back on my Pontiac G8 GT and I can say the build quality is comparative. Before everyone scolds me, as I have read as many threads as possible, I did not have the Y pipe installed as most everyone here has suggested. My question is: is the Y pipe conversion really necessary and secondly, how difficult / costly is it to have the Y pipe replaced retrospectively...?

Which model did you install?

No, the Y-pipe swap is NOT an indispensable part, but it will "open" up flow better than what you currently have and supplement your AM exhaust nicely. As I've whistled before on these boards, the OEM Y is horrid!

After the fact, as you now will have to if you decide, it's not an expensive or time consuming install for a reputable exhaust shop. You can grab the Y for right around $30.00 [HERE] and install should cost you app. $60.00 - $100

So for no more than $130.00 [parts n' labour] you get a MUCH better flowing Y with probably a 30% [or greater] less restriction in exhaust gas flow.

IMHO, absolutely worth it!

Oh and if you can find the Magnaflow Y cheaper online [hint: you will] hit our AutoAnything vendor on these boards up and he'll beat it.

Good luck.

MagnaFlow 16869 Catback Exhaust is what I had installed. Love the sound and the 5 inch tips look awesome.
