Default Installing a manual temp guage

Okay, I have recently acquired a 1982 D150 with a 318. I have never been fond of "idiot lights, as I call'em". I like manual gauges that I can actually see what the voltage is, oil pressure, or in my case the water temp. I have located the water temp sensor in the top of my intake manifold to the left of the upper radiator hose. My problem is going to be the hole. The new manual water temp gauge is not going to fit in there. Is there a different spot on the block somewhere that has a plug I can pull and install the new gauge into? If it is on the driver’s side I may have over looked it by mistake. When I bought the truck the previous owner had pulled the valve cover (for reasons unknown) and forgot to tighten the valve cover back on, so when I went to start the thing it started pouring oil out all down the block. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think you'd do better to post this in the first generation section. This section is for 3rd gen starting with 2002's. As to your not going to fit comment is it possible to maybe use an adaptor to make it fit? You didn't really say if the hole was bigger or smaller than the sensor on the manual gage. You should be able to go to a decent auto parts store and tell them what you're up against and get the right part.
Good luck.
