Default Cold start question

Hey guys I have a 98 1500 with the 5.2 that has an extended crank when the truck is cold, so sat for more than 4 hours or so. If I start to let it crank for a second instead of waiting the 5 seconds for it to crank and then let go and turn the key again it starts right away. I tried letting the pump prime before I try and crank her when cold but that makes no difference. It usually starts fine when I run into the store, except for a couple times it made a scratchy sound and I'd either have to let go and try again or it would just get itself to start. But that was only maybe 3 times.

Already done:
Ignition coil
Plugs
Wires
Rotor and cap
Air filter
IAC
Cleaned out throttle body
Had battery tested at autozone and advance and both said it was fine.
Checked for black smoke or fuel smell at tailpipe but didn't find any.

Thanks in advance guys. I don't know if its related but it also has A slight shake at idle and when at a stop light etc and the rpm will jump back and forth about 50 rpm.

Try this. Turn on the ignition for about 3 seconds but don't crank it. Then turn it off and then try to crank it and see if it fires right away.

My first truck did something like that for a couple weeks but then went back to normal. Never did figure out why but it was January so I figured it had something to do with frozen moisture, commonly referred to as "ice" =), getting places it shouldn't be.

Ramtech, I tried that but it didn't make any difference, I had thought fuel was draining back but apparently not.

And Brandon, I've had the truck since April and its always done it on the cold starts. The vibrations at idle don't seem as bad now though as in April.

Isnt there a stop check valve or is it check stop valve in the gas line to prevent the gas from slowly leaking back into the tank? I vaguely recall this happening to a friends truck and that was his issue. Dont remember if the valve was in the pump or not. In any case, it sounds like the same issue. If his truck sat for a few hours, it would take a few cranks to get the gas back into the line.

Has the intake plenum pan gasket ever been replaced?

I'm not sure if the plenum gasket has been done as ive only owned it since april, but when I took out the throttle body I got a flashlight and didn't see any oil pooled in the intake.

And I've heard about that check valve being bad on some of these. But if that were the case the times I turned the key to on and let it prime before trying to start it cold it should have started normally.

Am guessing my friends truck was older and didnt do the pump thing when the key is turned on.
