I was crusing home one evening. Had a Mustang GT pull up behind me at a light, and I was feeling playful, so I decided to try out the launching method another member posted up here. My truck has only had the mufflers swapped out, and the resonators removed, so not much in the way of "speed" mods. Also has the 3.92 gears on factory 20s, so it does get up and go pretty good! Anyways, I put it down into 1st gear, turn off T/C, brake torque it up, and quickly get off the brakes and on again to lock up the drivetrain. As the light goes green, I quickly fed it some throttle then sidestepped the brakes and put it to the floor! He obviously saw what I was doing because he took off after me. All I could see was his head lights falling slowly back. I was surprised, figured maybe he wasnt giving it all and wrote it off as that. Later on he passed me in a 2 lane section, and I was a little slow, but floored it, and noticed that he stopped pulling on me once the truck got downshifted (it was sleeping in ECO mode!). We got to another light again, this time I was behind him. Same launch technique was used, and this time, I knew he was driving it hard, but I had to get off the throttle or I would have drove into his rear seats! This absolutely blew my mind, having owned an 01-04 GT and knowing what they were capable of with some simple mods and a good driver. When I turned off they gave me a wave and both looked impressed!
The 03 Lightning wasnt so much of a kill, as it was astonishing. I fulled expected to get eaten alive, seeing as how its a 2wd shortbox pick up with much less weight then my truck, and 380hp! The lightning is owned by my old boss, so I know the only mod was a flowmaster exhaust, and 4.10 gears. We got lined up at a light side by side, and the road ahead was a loooooooooooong 2 lane straight away with no cross streets, I couldnt have asked for something more perfect. Again, I used the launching method I described before, and ended up nailing it perfectly! He didn't launch, so I destroyed him off the light, leaving 2 nice 20ft black lines through the intersection. I figured that was going to be it for me, that once he got going and into boost, he would quickly blow by me.............boy was I surprised when that never happened! I was manually shifting the truck, and could see in my mirror that he WAS pulling on me, but far FAR slower then I ever imagined! I shut down when I was a TINY bit over the speed limit (double!
) and he was still quite far back (well over a bus length!). I was so impressed by my truck that day! So was my boss for that matter, haha!
