Default Drop-in filter: AEM, AFE, Airiad, or K&N?

I'm looking to buy a drop-in filter (and mod the stock airbox) but want as much info before I make a decision. There's plenty of reviews and feedback, both good and bad, on the K&N drop-in (pn# 33-2247). In contrast, I've found next to nothing on the AEM (pn# 28-20247), AFE (pn# 30-10071 oiled / 31-10071 dry), or Airaid (pn# 850-447 oiled / 851-447 dry) filters.

I understand hp/performance difference is going to be negligible between the choices, I'm more concerned about design, and quality.

The price breakdown (jegs.com 5.7l hemi replacement filters) is:

AEM- $41.99
K&N- $46.99
AFE (oiled & dry)- $61.99
Airaid (oiled)- $59.99
Airaid (dry "synthamax")- $65.99

Anybody have experiences with the Airaid, AFE, or AEM? I have no problem shelling out the extra $$ for the Airaid, or AFE if they are any better than the other brands. I just want what's best for the engine!

I went with the airaid dry synthamax drop in air filter a few months ago. So far so good. I have heard some complaints about all of the brands you listed, everybody has their opinion. I liked the fact that with the dry filter you just wash, let it dry and put it back in. IMO its superior to the paper stock filter. Maybe someone else has an educated opinion on which filter is better. Good luck.

Which ever you go with, I suggest a dry filter. I had a oiled aFe filter on my CAI and the first time I cleaned it, I immediately went a bought a dry filter to replace it.

All are fine, dry is convenient for maintenance for the reasons listed above. I have had K&N's and I have a dry airaid drop in in my ram right now, I like it a lot.

I have the AEM DryFlow drop in. Good quality. I put it in pretty much from the start so can't comment on change in performance or efficiency. I've cleaned it a couple of times so far just by knocking the dirt out of it. 15K miles. Worth the $40 IMO.

Once you go dry, you will not want to go back to oiled-gauze. I've used both aFe and Airaid dry filters. They are both excellent.
