Default Ram oxygen sensor troubles

Hello, Im new to the forum and new to owning a 1997 ram 4x4 with the 5.9. A couple days after owning it i noticed the check engine light was on. I got a reader and checked the code and it came back to be a bank 1 sensor 1 oxygen sensor.

After many days of scratching my head trying to figure out where the sensor was im out of answers. People told me the sensor is located on the drivers side exhaust manifold, it wasnt. However, the last lead I had on its location was right before the catalytic converter. There is a socket there with what looks like a broken off end of an oxygen sensor. So after realizing there wasnt a sensor there I looked and looked for harness or cobbled wiring and found nothing.

What would any of you suggest I do? I dont want my truck to run like crap and do any worse on gas than it already does.

Thanks,
Bryant

Did you buy it private or from a dealer? It sounds like the seller knew the sensor was missing and reset the codes right before it was sold. It may have taken some miles to code the light. I'm not sure what action to advise but I'd be talking to the seller.

Yeah it was an individual seller, and even worse it was an auction so I never got the opportunity to get their contact info. I find it extremely strange, like I said the socket is there, there's a cap over the socket, but no wiring anywhere for the sensor that was once there. They did put a flowmaster exhaust in it, but that's from the cat back. Everything from the cat up appears to be stock. So why they would do that I'm not sure? There probably isn't a way to total rewire the o2 sensor to the computer is there?

Take a closer look underneath. Most of the sensors have a pigtail of wires probably about a foot long. The wiring plug is probably tied up somewhere underneath. I can't imagine that they would have cut it off.
If the cat is altered inside it'll still code the light when you do get the sensor sorted out. Do they have emissions inspection where you live?
I'd go back to the auction and see if they can open a case for arbitration.

The plug for the sensor can be tricky to find. Like BigDave said, It's probably wired up out of the way somewhere above the pipe so it wouldn't get burned.
