Default Noise changing with rpm

My dodge recently started making a noise, its hard to explain. but its kind of a whining not whistle. kind of a power steering type noise but i have no clue... it makes the noise with rpm. i increase the rpm and the noise goes a little louder with it from about 1000-2300 then after it shifts to second the sound is lower. again till reaching about 2300 till rpm goes up and shifts to 3rd and the noise isnt really there anymore. you can put it in netral and press on the gas and bring rpm up to 2000 or so and the noise is heard. i guess id say the noise is an errrrrrr at 1500 an you press gas till 2300 rpm and its like eeerrrrrRRRRRR getting louder lol sorry for my eplanation also it throws the code cylinder 6 misfire on and off even the it never really is misfiring. truck has 163,000mi i have installed a rebuilt tranny, new waterpump, new sparkplug wires, new sparkplugs and also new rotor an distributer cap .

Can you tell where the noise is coming from approximately? Underneath makes me thing transmission, maybe torque converter (confirm you're not low on fluid, when low the fluid will aerate and the converter will whine). Same can happen with low power steering fluid. Could also be an alternator bearing going out. Hard to say without some more details, if even then.

Well i doesnt sound like its from under the truck, but it does sound like i can hear it in front of me, but to the left side of everything. so i have been thinking power steering pump. all fluid levels are good. but then i checked tranny fluid and its a little higher, maby 1qt more.. so i will have to take a little out. that fact aside. the tranny was low when i was hearing the noise and i added fluid to proper lvl and it still made the noise. so im a little stumped haha

From what it seems, I'm having the exact same issue. I have a 2001 SLT 4x4 (sorry if I'm in the wrong place, I'm new and still learning my way around) and I've been trying to trouble shoot this since I got my truck about a month ago. At first I thought it was low fluid?: No. Maybe dirty fluid?: Flushed to no avail. Worn seals?: Power Steering re-conditioner for a week or so, no help. Leaking lines?: All check out. Air in the system?: (this afternoon) jack up front end, turn wheel left lock to right lock 40 or so times, check fluid level, turn on engine and left to right lock 5 or so times, check level, no foam, no leaks= in my experience no air. STILL MAKING THE NOISE!!

I thought maybe a dirty screen was robbing the system of adequate flow, but I can't see any screen/filter in the reservoir. I still have super good response from the steering and it's smooth and even. I'm really at a loss here. Right now my fix is to turn up the amp on my stereo a notch, magically the eeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRR disappears....

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
