Default 2004 1500 ram....

first off, If this is the wrong section, I'm new...and sorry...

I recently bought my dad '04 1500. 5.7l, 4x4 quad cab, 5 speed trans, 3.91 gear ratio. It has 113k miles, and was well taken care of by my dad, and myself, only mod we did was a K/N cold air set up..... so, I have a few questions, and I'll take any suggestions...Also I'll add, this is a daily driver, and I tow a 27' travel trailer that has a dry weight of 5600lbs.
So my questions are, what is the trans#? What, if any mechanical malfunctions should I look for or try to prevent with this truck? I want this truck to last a good 5+years for me and my family.
second, what are some "safe" mods I could do... Also I'll add, I'm going to Ohio this Monday to pick up a RUST FREE bed that was from a Texas truck...lol
Again, I apologize if this is the wrong forum...thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like a great truck. Assuming you have to have the bed painted, I would also have a spray in liner done. I would just keep up on maintenance and not try to fix things before they fail. Others may may say to change the valve springs, that may have some merit

There was a valve spring recall in 05 which swapped them out to beehive type springs, I'd make sure it was done. That's low mileage for a 13 year old truck, sounds like it was taken care of. I would get the underside and wheelwells of your new bed bedlined to keep the nice bed from rusting out.

5600lbs should be an easy pull for a 3.92 Hemi; it has the 545RFE transmission which was used up until just a couple years ago

Where would I look into that recall? Maybe call a dealer?
Cause I'm pretty sure my dad never had that taken care of.
And yes, new bed well be under coated, and I'm having a spray in bed liner done...
Thanks guys!

Yes, your local dealer should be able to run your vin and check for recalls.

Congrats on the sweet buy. I hope you negotiated a good price with the seller. Kidding.

This. Also I think if you go to the mopar owner connect site you can look for any open recalls and see what has been completed after entering your VIN

You can look up recalls right here:

https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/

Note that this is for recalls only, it will not indicate technical service bulletins or other recommended service items by the manufacturer.

Congrats on the new to you truck OP, sounds like you got a nice one. A buddy of mine has what sounds like the same truck (Hemi, 3.92's) but is a 2003. He bought it new and it's still serving him well to this day. He's a contractor by trade and sometimes tows a utility trailer around with tools and supplies. He's been working that truck since 03' and it still runs great. She's rusting around the rear wheel wells but I guess that is to be expected after 14 winters.
